I think a lot of people dislike it because they feel that it's a way of turning female characters male and they think its misogynistic or they want more buttsex. Or it's OOC.

But I just think it's fun and interesting. And it's fun to explore how they would have handled things if they were women or men without turning them into completely new characters (or if they sudden woke up the other sex!). Also it's kind of hilarious. My friend and I had a long discussion about what James Potter would have been like as a girl and how his altercations with Severus Snape would have differed if they both had been girls or if Snape had stayed a boy.

But mostly I'm in fandom for the crack that discussion dissolved into giggles and insanity before too long.

Lol, my money's on the buttsex thing and ditto for everything else. I know a lot of people who can take the whole 'I'm making them gay' thing but when it comes to the 'I'm making them/him (a) girl(s)' thing it gets too weird. IDK, thanks to fanfiction and fandom I'm now immune to lots of squeems and squicks and have a lot more kinks than I ever imagined existed.

Sadly none of my IRL friends care for gen-bends, they just tolerate it for me. I think they're just afraid of the boobs and vagina in their man-porn.

Also, (girl!)James Potter/(girl!)Severus sounds amazing. Femmslash. <3

Same here. The internet has given me such a thick skin. There's not much that squicks me out anymore. At the most, I'm in different towards kinks that don't jive with me. Which are very few. Fandom got me at a young age. I'm completely depraved now. lol

I love vag in my man porn! I don't get why others don't! I adore threesomes and so many series are built for them! Girls need to have fun too! Not to mention that so many fandoms involve sci fi or fantasy... you can explore so much and explain it away with a new machine or a potion. I donno why there isn't more gender bending in the Potter fandom!

Jaimie Potter and Severina Snape (lol yeah, it was a ridiculous conversation at some points) would be kind of awesome together. Even if it's totally unlikely because girls are MEAN to each other. XD But then again, I ship Pansy/Hermione so bully is a just a bump in the road. ;-)

I remember reading my first fanfic in 8th grade. It was between Ryou and Bakura and I had no idea what was going on but I didn't stop reading. So, fandom got me at a ripe age too. I feel it has made me a better, more tolerate person. (Lol)

Star Trek fics. were good at that, having billions of ways for characters to switch genders and such. Female Spock. <3333
