Heya...

Hello again,
I didn’t write Sunday because I got back a wee bit too late from a group dinner at a very nice, relatively inexpensive Italtian restaurant near Studienforum. I was a bit boring and went for the pizza, since one of the German interns told me it was excellent and that I absolutely had to try it at least once. I managed to consume about two thirds of it, and was rather proud of myself, considering I’d done considerable damage to our breadbasket only a few min. earlier. Other than that, the only other noteworthy happenings were orientation, practicing, and getting back to my host family’s house all by myself.
Yesterday, language classes began, and I was placed in the final course of the Mittelstufe, the middle level, but I may end up in the Oberstufe, since I’ve already studied the grammar we’ll be covering. It’ll depend mostly on if my reading comprehension is good enough for the upper level, since it’s pretty much all reading, and if my speaking’s good enough to skip the middle level. We shall see. I don’t want to be underchallenged, but I don’t want to be so stressed or have so much hw that I can’t take advantage of what Berlin has to offer- I can actually go out to do stuff ever single day without having all that many obligations, something that’s rather new to me. The U-Bahn is only two bus stops away, and that’s just because of construction- normally I’d be able to get right on a couple of streets away.
I learned a couple of interesting things from my host father yesterday. Firstly, it’s actually relatively easy to get an apartment in Berlin, since, due to a building boom a ways back, there are still quite a few empty apartments. You simply call up the GEHAG and inquire about renting or buying a house or flat. Also, my host father and his two sons were extras in the movie Enemy at the Gates, which was actually filmed south of Berlin, with all of the extras being local Germans. The three of them, ironically enough, played Russian boatmen ferrying troops and civilians across the Volga.
After class yesterday, I went to Schloss Charlottenburg to walk around the gardens with a classmate, then came home for dinner, ate, did my hw, and went to bed after reading for a bit.
Today I had lunch after the extra speaking course, in Cafe Garcon with the other students in my program, then we went to see a movie in a theater near Kreuzberg- Kebab Konnection. A cute love story that ended happily. Tomorrow we have a walking tour, which I am very much looking forward to. Well, I’m off to do hw and then bed, so Gute Nacht Alle!
