Hello everyone! Sorry for the lack of updates (though it's certainly not out of the ordinairy for me). My host family here in Rennes does not have internet access at home. I can use the computer here at the Franco-American Institute Library for free, but since it is "the" as in "the only" computer, I usually have to wait for a bit to be able to use it, and I don't like to spend too much time on it, since there's usually a line of people waiting for ME to be done. So basically, I will update when I can, which will not be very often. I have also been fairly sick this past week (same thing I had in Germany last summer- basically I'm allergic to W. Europe) so I haven't gotten around to finding an internet café yet.

So here's an update on the life of moi: Every morning during the zeek, we have class from 9:00-12:30 with a pastry break in the middle. There are two different levels of French within the group- FR 157 and FR 207, I'm in the latter. FR 157 is doing a grammar review and we're reading through a book of short stories by Camus. It seems fairly interesting so far. Mme Douchin spends the first part of class with one group, then switches after the break. There are also French students/ businessmen studying English, and we have spent some time speaking with them as well.

Most of my free time thus far has been spent eating, sleeping, and drugging myself up with various cold meds, so I haven't really explored Rennes yet. What I've seen so far has been very pretty though, and I definitely wouldn't mind spending some more time here in the future. It's a city of around 300, 000 inhabitants with one (very clean) metro line, which has one of its terminuses right near my host family's apartment. My host family consists of my host mother Odile and her daughter Justine, who is 17, and also a Persian cat whose name I can't remember. They seem to be much more relaxed though, and walk around in comfy clothes a lot of the time. Odile even took me to her personal doctor when I was sick and drove me to the pharmacy instead of leaving me to walk around for 3 hours.

Well, that's a fairly decent sized entry for now- I'll update later on the trip to Caen and the D-day landing beaches. Take care all, and feel free to e-mail me now and then!
