“What day did you say ?”
The man repeated, more slowly so she could understand better. She thanked him and then went back to her lover.
“Apparently, we’re in the past.”
“Really ? What year ?” Aaeru answered, still trying to find their clothes which were trapped under their seats.
“My birth-year. Actually, it’s my birthday.”
Aaeru looked up to Neviril, unsure of what she heard.
“Your birthday ? You mean, your first ?”
“The day I was born.” answered her sagitta. Her voice was soft and wistful.
Aaeru finally found the coat she was searching, and covered Neviril’s shoulders with it. She nearly jumped ; she didn’t saw her coming.
“Why don’t we go to your house ? I’d like to see you as a baby.” smiled Aaeru.
Sometimes she didn’t know how she could read her so perfectly, when did she learn to do it. But she was thankful to have found her, finally, that she never asked.

The flight was a bit longer than expected, because Aaeru kept saying the town should be North of the lake, regardless of the fact that it was actually on the South. The Simoun landed slowly in a clearing behind the old manor that was Neviril’s parents’ house, and they managed to get into the house without being seen.
Neviril knew the halls and rooms by heart, even she didn’t come here in years, even before the Emerald Ri Maajon. She stopped before her mother’s room, as she heard voices inside.
Silently, Aaeru and her hid in the hall, doing their best to catch the conversation.
“She’s beautiful, isn’t she ?” an exhausted voice said, that Neviril recognized as her mother’s.
“Indeed. She will be a lovely lady. But how are you, my dear ?” It was Paraietta’s mother, their neighbor and her mother’s best friend.
“I’m a little tired, but I’ll be fine in a matter of days.”
They heard a little yelp, promptly followed by a tiny laugh. “See, I think Paraietta already love her. She wants to touch her !” her mother said, laughing. Instinctively, Aaeru reached for Neviril’s hand in the darkness of the hallway.
Neviril turned to face her, smiling. “I’m here, remember ?” she whispered. Aaeru only nodded. Then they heard someone coming in their direction, and disappeared upstairs.
“I still haven’t seen you as a baby, Neviril. We can’t go back now.”
Neviril thought about that for a moment, then answered : “Then we’re going by the gardens. My mother’s bedroom has a window over them.”
*****
“So, how was I ?”
“You’re gorgeous, as always.”
“Aaeru...” Neviril protested faintly.
“No, really. Look.” And without warning, she pushed her a step forward, so she could see inside the bedroom. “Your mother is asleep, there’s no danger.”
There, in a little wood-made cradle, was herself. The baby opened her eyes, and looked back at her. The two Neviril stayed that way for that felt like an eternity, then the baby began to cry. Neviril jumped back, as her mother woke up to take care of her daughter.
“Let’s go back to the Simoun, Aaeru.”

The baby was asleep, now. She was only hungry, and she dozed off rapidly after a few lullabies. Looking at the sunset by her window, she thought about the strange thing she had seen just after waking up ; like a grown-up Neviril, the same color of hair, the same fire in her eyes already.
I really need rest, she thought. But her mind couldn’t forget that image, nor could her forget the fact that the girl was wearing a Sibylla uniform.
She smiled at her daughter, sleeping peacefully, and caressed the short pink hair.
One day, you will fly too. Just like her.
