...Four months of silence is better than six months?
I want to be all excited about finally getting my ass back onto lj, but it appears that I picked the worst week ever to try that, huh?
I relapsed a bit this week and so figured I could just sleep it off. Then I turn my phone back on and see all sorts of panicked texts about GH, and the fact that whatever spoilers have come out have apparently broken
lapiccolina. I realize I'm a few days late with this, but indulge me.
*deep breath*
WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK?!?!?!
That's better. Seriously, someone please explain to me Guza's logic behind this? I mean, yeah, there is no logic, but still. I literally have no way of comprehending what I've been reading today. This is just...ugh. I can't even bring myself to say the spoiler aloud. This show sucks. Where do I sign to get my soap opera back?
We all met because of GH, so my biggest hugs ever to everyone out there. I do not even have the words. Maybe later, but not now. Now I'm just too filled with seething rage to form an adequate response.
So, a few weeks ago, I sort of fell into an addiction to the show Criminal Minds. It had all my kryptonites: procedural show, strong cast chemistry, good individual characters, cute BFFs, and it didn't shove a ship down the audience's throat. Oh yeah, and some truly AWESOME female characters. So you all can understand why I've managed to mainline most of the five seasons in about a month's time. As of yesterday, I was all excited to watch the show live every week this fall. Hell, I still fully plan to enjoy the show in memory, because the first five seasons are pretty damn awesome.
So of course, I go to one of the main blogs for the show today and find out that they're FIRING one actress, reducing the episode order for another actress, and only keeping one actress on full time -- for the character who is seldom out in the field or doing "boy" stuff. All of this is supposedly for "creative" reasons, but you'll note how such creativity only affects the female characters.
I'm well aware that procedurals are mostly a boy's game, and CM is no exception. But that doesn't take away from the fact that there ARE great female characters who handle all the stories they're given with awesomeness, and also that the team (yes, this is a Team Fic show) always feels fairly even -- at least more so than certain other show's we've all watched.
They've already cycled out two characters in the show's history -- one male and one female, so I don't find fault with their previous decisions. The show survived Mandy Freakin' Pateynkin leaving, so I know they don't have to rely on cheap and easy ploys to keep stories going. And not for nothing, but they ran a story this past season for the Team Dad character that would have provided the PERFECT creative opportunity to replace him if, as the producers are claiming, they truly want to refresh the series. All signs point to this being a financial decision. The article that points out the most disturbing part of this story is
here.
Damn it, I barely had a MONTH of giddy excitement over a new show! Not that I probably won't be squeeing all summer about it, and I might even want to write fic because the characters are that amazing. No, no, you're not getting out of my fannish glee that easily. But it will also be interspersed with levels of rage usually reserved for GH and Stargate.
All that said, if anyone wants to be directed to two of the CUTEST BFFs ever, just let me know. :)
Oh yeah, and the reason I haven't been around for the last two years -- I GRADUATED!!!! Someone actually saw fit to award me a master's degree. I don't get it either. But yay! Advanced degree! Now with added stress about finding a job. But OMGOMGOMG! Done with school!
So, yeah. That should cover it all. I'm not near my computer a whole lot, but I'm trying to catch up on posts and leave comments for the last few days. I've missed you all, my pretties!
