I watched a movie today, "W." thanks to a neighbor who has a "free basket".
This is a good movie! I highly recommend it ...
A few spoilers underneath the cut:
It doesn't make you want to cuddle up to anybody and of course it has a few Donald Sutherland/JFK (which is one of my favorite movies...)infodumps--this is Stone, here, folks.
The movie does make you understand W and a few others a little more, and they all have a character/ethical arc, which today is lacking in quite a few movies.
If certain characters- in this case, George Tenet and Colin Powell, don't chase (well, metaphorically speaking) somebody around and ask them if they are indeed the "good man"...even if it's somebody (Tent) I might not like, and somebody I have mixed feelings about( Colin Powell)about--I am not satisfied about the movie!
Sometimes I kinda give in and enjoy the movies where conflict is at Bruce Willis blockbuster level instead of the Bruce ala Pulp Fiction and 12 Monkeys level, but not when I see these movies over and over again.
Brings me out of the movie wayyyy out. And this movie, by dint of real 3 dimensional characterization ( except for Conleeze Rice--I don't know her well enough, and there was a glitch in 7 minutes of the movie...I think a missed a scene between her and W, but she was a very tightly wound and very quiet person...maybe the commentary will clear it up)
And yes, I can bring Blade Runner and Bruce Willis into any discussion. Heh.
Anyway--really good movie, and tomorrow I might catch the commentary.
Thanks, free basket of neighbor.
This post is brought to you by green tea, hot; plain chicken burritos at La Bufa, and Strawberry C-Monster by Odwala, which actually helped me to feel a lot better...and sleep. Lots of sleep.
So my current RX is : green tea, vitamin c, a very simple burrito with a good guacamole on the side, sleeeeep, and watch a good movie, also, I am keeping my apartment very warm tonight.
