He received a Medal of Freedom Tuesday.

200 years from now, I think there are a few singers who will be listened to still--and yes, even if the media changes drastically or even if all somebody can have is a hand cranked phonograph of some sort...Ella Fitzgerald, some of the finest opera singers such as Maria Callas, and Jimi Hendrix, a few others.

There are some writers I think will intrigue the 23rd century...such as Shakespeare, and
Jane Austen, Octavia E. Butler and Charles Dickens and of course, some others that I am probably not well read enough to recommend or know about.

There are some singer-songwriters who may outlast this century, but very very few singer-songwriters who I think are "for the ages"...Bob Dylan is one of them.
His songs will be sung out on the Moon and Mars and shared with Vulcans (on their equivalent)
and cribbed into songs about the various and sundry Big Damn Heroes and Heroines out there in the black.

music, bob dylan
