It's Come To This: CNN Brings On Psychics To Tell Us What The Economy Will Be Like | Crooks and Liar

If I can get meta for a moment, I really think this is more insidious than stupid. The pundits that we see everyday on the 24 hour cable channels are no more qualified to predict the future of the economy than these psychics. Really, what special knowledge does Bill Kristol or Pat Buchanan have that qualify them?

Psychics may well know a few things- but in a mirror darkly, in my mind. The world is a big place, economics and finance doesn't rest on one man, woman, or company, or philosophy.
Economics likes to think of itself as the "hardest" of the social sciences, in fact, most conservative/Republican professors in the social sciences are Economics Professors, the most liberal bunch are Anthropologists, and as a very amateur anthropology type---you have to take the wholsitic view, and see beyond the numbers and patterns and hard cash, to the "ineffable" of wars and poverty and social disintegration and generational shift...and culture and society! Etc.

Maybe part of that is the Hand of God and the unwinding road of destiny and even the influence of the stars.

And the good old Scandinavians, they'd say, include the "unknown" factor, too, alongside the Aztec who are/were some of the smartest mystics around-they figured out maths in part to further their own mythologies and belief--Mr. Mexico would sit down next to Ms. Scandinavia and Mr. Mexico would add, "do not forget to count the zeroes into and alongside that unknown, Ma'am."

numbers, zero, economics, psychics, unknown, news
