Taking numbers, taking blame. A mixtape

Mar 21, 2011 21:27

I tried to keep it at least 12 songs but to make sure I didn't go over I made some bonus tracks. I'll most likely make another mixtape very soon. I enjoyed making this one and I have so much more music so share. This mixtape has no concrete theme except they are all a part of my long list of favorite songs.

Enjoy and laugh at my lulzy cover art that has errors on it and i'm too lazy to fix it tbh :)

1.Empty Chairs At Empty Tables(Les Misérables 10th Anniversary Concert)-Michael Ball

so I picked this song because I'm obsessed with it. I had always liked the play but I wasn't a super fan of it. Recently there was a 25th Anniversary concert and Nick Jonas was in it and callmedragonbby was talking about it and Les Misérables is her favoritest(I know that isn't a word lol) musical ever and she loves Nick Jonas so she was giving out links and stuff so I gave his version a listen and I liked it a lot(and everyone should look it up on youtube, it isn't that whiny pop stuff he sings, he sounds like a man) and she told she had a version she thought I would like even more and it was this version and just w o w. My mind was blown, if you watch him perform it,you can see and feel the anguish and guilt in his voice and can see it in his face. I can never listen to this song one time, I always listen to it on repeat for at least an hour a week. Even if you aren't into musical theater it's a good listen

2.Tree By The River-Iron&Wine
I downloaded this song in a mixtape I got from indie_exchange and it easily became my favorite song off of the mix. My bubbe's name is Mary Ann so when I see her I like to sing the first line from the song Mary Anne, do you remember, the tree by the river; when we were seventeen? and she gets so confused and it's adorable. I love how chill the song is and laid back. It's the kind of song you would hear in the background of a indie film montage scene on a lazy Sunday and the protagonist got the girl at the end.

3.Liar-Mumford and Sons
another song from the very very awesome callmedragonbby I had already got the full album and she posted some songs not on a album and from an EP and I liked all the songs she posted but this one stuck with me, also Lover of The Night but I was on a number limit lol. This song is really fun to sing along to with friends and I've actually tried to learn it on guitar and that's fun. White Blank Page is my all time favorite Mumford song after I Gave You All.

4.Blindsided-Bon Iver
Oh My God. The love I have for this song is unbelievable. I remember the first time I heard this song I actually cried. I can't actually articulate my love for this song and really frustrates me because I have so much I want to say. Listen to this song, let it seep into your soul. You'll love it, trust me.

5.Milk-Kings Of Leon
I got Aha Shake Heartbreak from the library and loved it so I bought it from Target that weekend lol. The album as a whole is some good ole southern garage rock but Milk stuck with me before I bought the physical copy. I would sing it all the time during the week or hum. I love the raw gritty emotion of Caleb's voice in all of their songs but his voice in this song idek it just hits you there. I love how simple the words are but at the same time the words carry so much meaning. I called and I called, but I can’t get through, said he’s on his own, but his own is you is one of my all time favorite lines in a song ever.

6.Pacing the Cage-Paper Rival
This song is a cover of the Bruce Cockburn song of the same title. I love how beautiful and simple it is. The claps are a nice organic touch. So is the violin. The lyrics are so deep and sad. I love it to pieces.
Sometimes the best map will not guide you; You can’t see what’s round the bend. Sometimes the road leads through dark places. Sometimes the darkness is your friend. Today these eyes scan bleached out land. For the coming of the out-bound stage. Pacing the cage. Pacing the cage

7.If You Can't Ride Two Horses at Once...You Should Get out of the Circus-Asking Alexandria
Now at first you're going to think "oh hell no, I don't listen to that screaming shit" but if you listen to the words[and yes you should be able to understand what he's saying] and it's a really good catchy song with stadium like shouts and sing along parts. The clean vocals are crisp and you can clearly hear his frustration about the situation. So now this is over and the world falls upon me. I never expected to be here alone. The shadows are forming as we burst into flames. Why does this end this way?

8.Textbook-We Are Scientists
when I was in the 6th grade I discovered We Are Scientist. I heard it on the local rock station here at 1am. It was Nobody Moves, Nobody Get's Hurt and I loved the drumming, the infectious beat. Catchy lyrics. So I googled them and bought the album. It's a really good album, I believe it's one of the best albums of the last generation of music. Their new album Barbara is exceptionally good, I like it a lot. But there is something about Textbook that makes me listen to it a million times. It's extremely relatable, I don't know why but it just resonates with me. Twist my arm 'cause that's the way you think you're gonna work this whole thing out. You know you own my body but don't think that you control my mouth

9.Let Your Love Grow Tall-Passion Pit
I love passion pit, my first time hearing them was in a cell phone commercial like many people but I ended up going crazy and downloading[and buying a physical copy] of everything they have made and I saw them live and it was one of the best shows I have ever seen. Now I could of used Little Secrets or Sleepyhead or even Mouth Wings but it was either this song or I've Got Your Number and this one won out. I really like it, I love the children's choir in it[another song on the album has the choir and its good too]. It's the thought that counts. No, quiet minds don't know their worth; they know now what to do. So I'll pray for them and I'll pray for you till my face turns blue

10.The Runner-Kings Of Leon
This song obviously means a lot to me since I named the whole mixtape after a line in the song. This song is so freaking amazing. Once again it has seemingly simple lyrics that carry a lot of punch and driven by Caleb's raw gritty vocals that are chock full of emotion. The reason I love this song and the album Because of The Times is KOL was finally evolving with their sound. They were polishing it, they went from fast pace southern garage rock to almost a stadium sound while not letting their southern roots go and I love that about them.

11.Simeon's Dilemma- WHY
This song is so insane. I found out about this band through a good friend of mine. I love how you can't really put a label on them. One album is kind of trip rap, the other has a more guitar rock sound. What I love about this song is mostly the lyrics and the whimsical dream like music. You're mostly what I think about and I'm proud. I've been coasting on this singles route. But I still hear your name in wedding bells. Will I look better or will I look the same rotting in hell You're the only proper noun I need.

12.2nd Sucks-A Day To Remember
Please please please listen to this. It's awesome. It makes me wanna punch people in the face. It's the kinda song that you head bang to and scream along to and just yeah. I fucking love it and the lyrics are so real and brutal. A Day To Remember is one of my favorite bands. I speak the truth, and everybody else knows it. So set your ego to the side and just get the fuck over it. Can't waste my time on hateful people like you. So keep wishing you were me, and I'll keep making you have to

BONUS TRACKS

These are songs that couldn't make the 12 and under limit that i think the world should listen to and love just as much as I do

1.Freaks and Geeks-Childish Gambino
Donald is hilarious, his rap is ill. I love this song. The music video could of been better tho lol but I like the beat. Very quotable bars :D Ni**a, can’t you tell that my sample of Adele, was so hot I got these hood ni**as blowin’ up my cell. Swag out the ass, I’m the man, fuck Chico. Took the G out your waffle, all you got left is your ego.
