If anyone is into the songs of the anime you watch you would know what Animelo is all about. A mish-mash of artist getting together to sing a selection of songs from the most current anime as well as some old ones. I have a few anime song concerts on DVD/BD to enjoy but definitely experiencing it live was different and being my first time ever attending Animelo, or an anime song concert even, the experience itself was amazing. Songs performed live plus the enthusiasm and excitement of the crowds is something worth coming to Japan for. Anyway here's a look at the setlist for the 2 days I've attended.

Comments and thoughts
Favourites have to be Fripside, angela, ELISA, Girls Dead Monsters, Chihiro Yonekura and Naomi Tamura duet, Sphere and JAM Project. Now you ask, that's just half of the artist. Yeah, the line up for day 1 has a few I'm not interested in. Yuuka Nanri was a disappointment considering she does better in FictionJunction. Naozumi Takahashi while a great singer, not a big fan, but it's amusing to hear some of the female fans go wild during his MC. Sphere was simply awesome especially "Now loading...SKY!!", their newest, and probably their best, song to date. Granrodeo thought surprise me by their song music and playing, and I think I might check out their other works. The only works I've heard their music in was for Needless, but the song wasn't the greatest. JAM Project once again is awesome, and they got the crowd to do a little bit of karaoke to Gong. I know bits of Gong, but heck give me the romanji and I'll sing with them all day. The fun part though is when they switch from Gong to Skill, they drag one segment out quite a bit and got the audience even more pumped up. It just makes me want to jump into some giant mecha to go kick some ass. However the best bit definitely goes to the duet with Chihiro Yonekura and Naomi Tamura as they sang a classic song - Yuzurenai Negai. Just a bit of history, Magic Knight Rayearth was the first anime series I bought on DVD when the format came out. So with a bit of nostalgia and just the pure awesomeness of the song, I was moved to tears. Along with my manly tears, I even sang bits of the song that I know. This made up for the rest of the concert for the day.

Comments and thoughts
With the artist list for day 2 being better than day 2, I expected a bit better. Anyway, the highlights for me were Minorin and May'n duet of Sousei no Aquarion (incidentally I'm watching the show right now, got them cheap from a Rightstuf sale), milktub, Psychic Lover, Halko Momoi, ALI Project, May'n herself, Yukari Tamuran, KOTOKO (it was the biggest surprise this year), and Nana Mizuki. For this day we came prepared with 16 glow sticks and a battery powered one. With those in hand, I can now say I've truly experienced an anime concert. Masami Okui was disappointing since she only sang 2 songs! 2?! May'n while her first 2 songs I'm not too familiar with, were still entertaining nonetheless. Halko Momoi though knows how to work the crowd and was enjoying her segment a lot. Yukari Tamura was awesome and that's all there is to it. KOTOKO was a major surprise and as mention if you purchase the DVDs/BDs, they'll most likely cut the segment out of it. Hearing re:sublimity live just rocks my mind. And Nana Mizuki, I can now say I've seen Nana in the flesh! I'm happy! Only stayed for the first encore performance since the song is probably one of the better Animelo theme songs. Didn't stay for the second since we wanted to get back to the hotel earlier and with less of a crowd.
So what did I honestly think of this year's Animelo concert? Compared to previous concerts, this year's line up and the amount of duets were rather disappointing. No Yui Horie? Suara? Scandalous! But going to the concerts for the first time, it is definitely a great experience. I may even consider going again next year, and hopefully the line-up may be better too.
