LOST!!! - City of LA Business TAX Filing!

Apr 23, 2011 16:49

Apparently the Universe does not think I have ENOUGH STRESS in my life....

Today I received a heart-attack inducing Notice of Hearing from the City of Los Angeles.

Apparently they NEVER RECEIVED my business tax filing which was mailed well before the February 28th deadline.

Unless I come in for the hearing or "take care" of this filing by May ( Read more... )

::HUGS::

Sometimes, these letters are much worse than the actual interaction with office staff. Since you've been timely every previous year, they hopefully will have no reason to doubt you mailed in time this year and will need only a copy of your paperwork.

I'm keeping a lot of good thoughts for you.

Major hugs!!!

Thank you! I hope it turns out painless, exactly as you say. I am simply preparing myself for the worst possibility, just in case...

And now -- because I am a nervous wreck right now -- I am going to go offline for a bit, and see if packing some more boxes for the move to Vermont might calm me down somewhat....

I'll second this. My experiences with any tax-related folks has been that you've won half the battle if you just show up and talk to them reasonably. Some seem so surprised by this that they're willing to work with you.

Good luck! I hope the office clerks will be nice too.

You are NOT a lightweight. Anyone who's gone through as much as you have over the course of the past few years is bound to have their reactions to constant crisis mode change from stoicism to weeping and back again.

I'm a fellow veteran of the thousand psychic wars, so to speak, although little of it makes it to my LJ. I hold out my hand in sympathy and camaraderie.

here's hoping the folks you see in the coming weeks at the courthouse will see reason and will cut you some slack.

*BIG HUG*

I think that the letter, and the bark, may be worse than the bite. If you present your dated records, and point out that you have mailed your request for exemption in every year. Together, of course, with the polite suggestion that there may have been an error on their part (as these things are not unknown) you may come through clear.

Thanks so much everyone. I deal with it, went down to the courthouse, and I think it is okay now....
