My 2005

Jan 01, 2006 16:35

1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
Drove a car a lot, went abroad with people I didn't know before hand, worked all summer, went to a bar in Finland, made concrete plans about moving out, joined an all-male roleplay group, asked a stranger on a date.

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
No, not really. I must again promise the old boring things: sleep and exercise more, be more active in class, clean more often.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No, too bad.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Fortunately no.

5. What countries did you visit?
Austria and Germany.

6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
More energy and motivation toward schoolwork, more self-discipline.

7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
May Eve, April 30th. Met, fell in love and began going out with the guy I intend to be with for the rest of my life.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Perhaps being able to communicate with people in Germany in German, not only in shops and restaurants, but at coctail parties, schools and bars as well for five days. Having studied German for two years only it felt rathe remarkable.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not doing the schoolwork I should have done during the summer, getting a C from the Finnish national matriculation exam (but then on, I had 39 degrees Celcius fever, so it was also an achievement).

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I had pneunomia in the autumn and because of various mistakes made by doctors (medication et cetera) I ended up missing three weeks of school, most of which having 39 degrees Celcius fever. I also had to do most of my national matriculation exams ill.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My laptop, definitely, and the coffeemaker that waits under my bed for the day I and Joni move in together.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
I think Joni's for being loving and understanding and almost too nice, Annika's and Dandi's and Liisa's for being there for me without judging, boys' for being great pals, Dad's for teaching me drive (wasn't an easy job) and Mom's for pushing me to do things when I procrastinated.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
My own, mostly.

14. Where did most of your money go?
To my laptop Bobby the Third, shopping and in the summer and autumn partying.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Joni. And Vienna and Roctock and driver's license.

16. What song will always remind you of 2005?
Under the Moon of Love by Showaddywaddy

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? happier
ii. thinner or fatter? thinner
iii. richer or poorer? poorer, I think

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Studying and sleeping.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Procrastinating, work.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Spent it with my family as usual.

22. Did you fall in love in 2005?
Yes, very much indeed.

24. What was your favourite TV program?
Gilmore Girls

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No, the situation is the same - I don’t hate anyone.

26. What was the best book you read?
I fell in love with "The Great Gastsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Even more than that, though, I loved his short story collection "Flappers and Philosophers".

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I re-discovered Smokie, which I used to love when I was seven. It brought back quite a few memories.

28. What did you want and get?
A city holiday, a laptop, a summerjob, a driver's license.

29. What did you want and not get?
Some friendships to stay the same they used to be.

30. What was your favourite film of this year?
The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
On the very day I turned 18 my grandparents and my aunt/godmother and her family (includingmy goddaughter Emelia) came over for lunch and cake. A couple days before I celebrated with my boyfriend, a couple days after with my longest-known girlfriend and a couple weeks after I and Janne threw a birthday party together.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
If I had done my work properly in the summer.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
Rather more neutral and adult than it used to be though I still wore my crazy skirts in the summer. I found brown and green as colours and wore a lot less pink than earlier.

34. What kept you sane?
Joni and Annika, for the most of it, Mom and Dad as well.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
No one.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
I guess the fact I'll be able to vote in the Presidential Elections in Finland in January 2006, although nothing stirred me much this year. Oh, the new copyright law did, to an extent.

37. Who did you miss?
Laura, who moved to Tampere. After the summer I missed Merja.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Joni, absolutely. Through him, I also met Otto, Akusti and Ville properly and found a whole new social circle - the roleplay club.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005:
In the end, love, not education, career, traveling or money, is the central force behind happiness.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"hei me heilutaan taas mutta ei me kaaduta
ehkä väsyttää vähän mutta nyt ei nukuta
hei me heilutaan taas mutta ei me kaaduta
ei me menneisyyttä kaduta tai sitä kelata
ei se meidän syy oo jos on suunta hukassa
kello takaperin käy maailma on vinossa (hei)"

Oh the joy of beeing 18.
