Oh, that was you! During my recent foray into the Justified fandom (I've been away from fandom for a while - I had no idea the show even had one), I found the Winter/Summer in Harlan memes and looked at the prompts. (Gorgeous prompts, but as you said, limited. I don't mind limited memes, because I don't think anyone minds if a fill pops up in a comm even after the meme is over. Although it's not in the spirit of the game and I probably shouldn't say that out loud to the maintainer of those memes. ;)

That said, an unlimited meme would be sweet. However, from experience I know that most prompt memes run over with prompts and hardly get enough fills to make up a ratio. That's an argument for limited memes - because even though the ratio there isn't much better, at least the prompting stops after a certain amount of time. What one could do, is a meme with a limited time frame for prompts, but an unlimited time frame for fills?

So, the advantage of an unlimited meme is unlimited time to fill prompts. The disadvantage, that prompts sometimes run into the thousands, with hardly any fills.

Advantage of the limited meme, as you did, is a limited amount of prompts and a lot less work for the maintainer of that meme, because it's over at some point. The disadvantage, the way sometimes one doesn't have time to fill prompts within the given time frame.

I'm just happy to see any sort of prompting/exchanging going on. I want to write and so inspiration/prompts/etc. are all very welcome. I'm looking forward to what you're planning - whatever that may be. :D

I was planning a Summer in Harlan meme again, after the exchange is over. I like your idea of a limited time for prompting, perhaps with a prompting cycle (a few weeks open, then a month or two closed), but maybe just keep the comment meme open all the time.

I've hesitated to do a lot of organizing of this kind of thing so far, because I came to this fandom about a year after the show first aired, and there were already a few fandom and fic communities. I didn't want to stomp on anyone's toes.

But these types of challenges are a different story than just discussion or fic hosting, and I'm really excited to get it off the ground.

Another thing I've always wanted for this fandom is a friending meme. :D

I'm looking forward to the next round of Summer in Harlan. :D This time I'll be there to actively participate, not running behind by a year. *g*

So far, I've come across the Justified communities via complete accident. I searched the interests on LJ and all it came up with was justified_fx. And from there, I have no idea how I found the other two. Uncharted place for me still, Justified fandom. I'm slowly discovering it. ;)

Maybe that's why I don't think anyone's going to feel like their toes have been stepped on if you start something new. I only know of about three comms and haven't had contact with anyone yet [except for you], but it seems as if people would be more than glad to accept another comm as long as it means more fic/interaction. (I've come across a few comments that were in the spirit of "there's not enough **** fic!".):D

I'm all for a friending meme. It's such a tiny fandom that the circle of people one can talk to about it is relatively small. (I believe prompting memes or general communities help with that. One gets to know the people who prompt and reply when everyone's in the same place. I'm just getting started and don't know anyone yet. :D I'm really glad you're thinking about an exchange - it helps getting to know people.)

I think an exchange will help to get to know people as well. :D

I'm so glad you found your way to this fandom. It's always fun having more people to squee with.

Agreed!

Which means it's time to collect plot bunnies. (And even more, clean up the stuff that I've already written so I have something to show when we get to the "and what do you write?" part of the exchange and don't have to be all 'author to her book' and apologize for unwashed ears. :p)

LOL. I've been trying to collect all my bunnies in a "don't forget you want to write this" doc. Because seriously, the multiplying. Especially as we move further into S3. :D

If you need help cleaning up the fic you have, I am a fabulous beta (if I do day do myself) and could certainly take a look.

Bunnies are dangerous things - so very distracting. I'm gearing up for something huge IRL at the moment (you know those months when everything happens at once, every deadline is coming up), so it's really not helpful to get that itch all the time. But at the same time, life would be a lot more boring without writing.

That offer of yours is awesome. It might take a while for me to have polished them to be where I want them to be; but when I have, I'll definitely come back to this lovely offer. And if you've still got time then and like reading the kind of stuff I usually write... I'm looking forward to seeing you in action. ;)

Awesome. I'm looking forward to it. :D

And I hope RL treats you kindly.

:)

If everything goes well (and I hope to hell it does), in about 4 weeks, RL will be lying down and presenting its throat to me. But yeah, four weeks of hell ahead. It'll be like Ranger School. ;)

(Have you seen that documentary on Ranger School on YouTube? Fascinating stuff. Gave me some material for fic. I liked how they emphasized that a big part of a Ranger mission is the 'getting there'. Tim could survive a week in the woods, wrestling squirrels for pinecones...)

LOL, I haven't seen it, but it sounds interesting.

I gotta say, my interest in Tim really extends only to my interest in him when he's yanking on Raylan's chain and complaining about what a dick Raylan is all the time. I like his vaguely outsider's perspective on all things Harlan and his "fuck-it-and-fuck-you-too" sort of attitude, but my fascination with the dynamic between Raylan and Boyd runs much deeper.

Though I can always get behind a huddling against hypothermia plot. :P

That probably means that S3 has been a lot more satisfying for you than it has for me so far. (At least Tim was there in the last episode. Comic relief, those two.)

The whole frenemies thing is great in Justified. With Tim it's more like a "what am I letting you do to me?", but with Boyd it's a whole different dynamic. For me personally, it's a bit After Eight, though. Like I totally understand people's fascination, but I... well, different story. ;)

In a very gen way, I love the Art-Raylan dynamic, too. XD Art's total exasperation. It's like he's given up on whatever control he had. He just trusts Raylan to not go too far.

I hope we get all our hopes fulfilled come tomorrow night. A bit of everything would be nice. (If Tim shows up, that is... not like that time he sort of solved the case and was never on screen. XD Deputy Calling-it-in.)
