Tilden Regional Park Botanic Garden, Berkeley
Annual Spring Plant Sale

Our spring plant sale is a once-a-year opportunity to select from an unmatched diversity of California native plants propagated by volunteers from the Garden's collection, including trees, shrubs, groundcovers, perennials, grasses, bulbs, ferns, and annuals, as well as native plant seeds. Many of the plants we offer are not available anywhere else.

The sale features plants to fit conditions in every Bay Area garden, with experts on hand to provide advice and gardening tips. All proceeds from the sale directly benefit the Regional Parks Botanic Garden.

Our spring plant sale is held at the Garden on the third Saturday in April from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine.

Hidden Villa hosts plant sale - Los Altos Hills

Using California native plants can help to mitigate global warming by reducing water and energy use for the household. Naturally waterwise and energywise, native plants add beauty, habitat value and a sense of place to any garden.

The local chapter of the California Native Plant Society (CNPS) has scheduled its semiannual Native Plant Sale 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 12 at Hidden Villa, 26870 Moody Road, Los Altos Hills.

Naturally adapted to the local soil and climate, California native plants thrive without amendments, fertilizers or pesticides, and offer habitat value. Species of hard-to-find native plants from deergrass and monkey flower to redbud and blue-eyed grass, from orchids and lilies to ferns, sedums and buckwheats will be available for public purchase.

In spring, California hillsides turn shades of yellow, orange, red, blue, purple and white with glorious wildflower displays. Many of these wildflowers will grow in local gardens with little effort. Seeds and bulbs will be available at the sale. Experts will discuss drought-resistant alternatives to lawns, including native perennials, shrubs, wildflowers and grasses. The sale will include books, posters and note cards featuring native plants.

CNPS volunteers have tagged and nurtured the plants.

Proceeds from the sale fund chapter activities such as gardening with natives, field trips and conservation and education, as well as the Trust for Hidden Villa.

Hidden Villa, which has free parking, is 2 miles west of the I-280 Moody/El Monte Road exit.
