If you think you might come to California...I think you should

I have to admit I've grown to love California. For all my jaded posturing about it's plasticity and faux being the best way to describe most of it, I've fallen in love with the place.
Andrew is far less of a bum than he lets on and since our day of bumming he's come to a few of my shows, including the one to benefit Walden Woods, where I stood, without the protection of my piano, in the center of the stage, in a dress (a night of many firsts it was) and sang Stormy Weather. Don Henley requested it and there are just some people who are such legendary talents that you can't turn them down.
They showed my taped performance of "Are you Lonesome Tonight?" on Thanksgiving Eve on the show many many people participated in about Elvis. For anyone who saw it, I spent most of the evening asking myself how Chuck D could just not get it. Some people are so obtuse.
In a few days, December 5th, I'll be playing again, this time at 4th and B in downtown San Diego. Jingle Ball Eve:An Intimate Evening with Norah Jones and Bon Jovi
Sounds better than it is, it's a concert but a girl can dream. :)
Anyway, I'd love to tell everyone to come, but thanks to Bon Jovi headlining it sold out in one, yes one, minute. Tickets were $150 a seat and everything was gone a minute after the box office opened. I'm nervous as fuck. They are so amazingly talented. Anyone with any real musical appreciation or talent can't help but respect them, even if you aren't a fan of rock and roll, which yeah I am. I love these guys but anyone in the business knows they are the ticket to be on if you want to be seen and heard and I'm honored they wanted me there playing with them and shared the bill like that. Jon is a great guy, one of the best. I just interviewed him for Interview Magazine and he was great. It's in the December issue so check it out if you want.
I would recommend heading down to the Jingle Ball though, it's on the 6th and there are a bunch of people playing, Jewel, the Goo Goo Dolls (another awesome band), Def Lep, Leann Rimes, and John Mayer to name a few and all of this benefits a place called "Becky's House" a shelter for domestic violence victims. Even if you can't come to one of the shows, donate something and help. The event is being hosted by Star100.7 FM, so you can probably find out from them where to send donations.
"...Now the days go by so fast. And it's one more day up in the canyons. And it's one more night in Hollywood..." after the show and then I'll be leaving for New York to tape Saturday Night Live. On the 7th, me and Robert De Niro. Wow. I'm not sure I even believe that one and my mom is so excited about it she can't think.
I feel a little bit like Ferris Bueller said, life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and look around you might miss it.
"...I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower,
Makes you talk a little lower
about the things you could not show her
And it's been a long December
and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can't remember all the times
I tried to tell my myself To hold on to these moments
as they pass
And it's one more day up in the canyon
And it's one more night in Hollywood
It's been so long since I've seen the ocean...
I guess I should..."
There's more radio shows coming up and things but I can't think more than a week ahead right now.
I hope everyone had a great holiday and Andrew, I miss you. Call me when you can.
