Underside

We went kyaking again yesterday, out to the same lake Squid had taken me to last time. We skipped by the island this time, just waving at the family that was there, but continued on towards the bridge. The water was higher than normal, which meant there was even less space than normal under the bridge. We had to loosen out seats in our kayaks so we could lay back as flat as possible and pull ourselves along the underside of the bridge. The bottom of the bridge was inches from our noses as we lay flat and worked hand over hand to slide under. It was amazing, and beautiful and other and I loved it.

On the other side we saw a duck nesting, hiding from us. Later on there was a swan guarding his ladyfriend on her nest. We gave him a wide berth, knowing that he could probably eat us.

It was beautiful and calm and lovely. There is something so different from kayaking than from any other boating activity. You're so close to the water, right on it, inches above it. The water got a little choppy towards the end, and the way the kayak rocks and you roll your hips with it is so much more connected than a canoe or raft.

Wonderful.
