Brl c(er)tific(ation)

I got word today (after months of waiting) that I passed my final exam, and am now a certified braille transcriber. Yay!

Makes me want to get back in the habit of reading braille every night before bed - I should do that. If only my printed book weren't so good...

This is great in that I can start doing some volunteer work transcribing braille. Not sure that the library of congress will let me work for them yet (might need to be certified for 6 months first), but it's a start, and one I'm really proud of. And I'll find things I can do - might even be able to translate for pocket change, if I get a job with a company that does transcription. Wouldn't be full time, I'm sure, but it's something I enjoy. Mostly, though, I want to put that knowledge to work as a service. My schedule is strange and I'm constantly busy, so it's nice to have a volunteer thing I can do from home, on my own time. And it's the coolest code, ever, so I feel like a super spy while I do it. Bonus.

It also means that in 6 months I can work to get my certification in either mathematical, musical, or computer code braille, all of which have their own systems. They need people who can read and understand the source text (read music, actually get what the equations are saying, etc) so you understand about acceptable places for line breaks and whatnot. I'm pretty good in all three subjects, so I'd like to help - literary braille is awesome, but given the extra time and effort, they're even shorter on other methods, volunteer-wise. Not sure which to start with, though - I'm leaning towards math or music, unsurprisingly, but wonder if code might be the most useful.

But yes. All officially official and all of that. Yay!
