All For One, and One for- Eh, Whatever

Earlier this week, Squid, Silvergoose and I headed out to NSMT to watch their musical production of the Three Musketeers. Every show we've seen there has been fantastic, and the actors, costuming, set, etc certainly lived up to my expectations.

Sadly, the actual play did not.

Singing? Great. Acting? Great. Sword fights? Exciting and numerous. Lyrics? One song, two separate rhymed couplets about combing one's hair. The big Musketeer song was slow and all about "Friends? Friends!", but in a wussy way. The Cardinal had not only no song, but no lines at all. Milady had one song that was whiny and wussy, and one that sort of figured that if you ended every line with the same word, you didn't really need to bother with the rhymes, meter, or syllable count for the rest of it.

In short: it was bad. Especially disappointing given Goose's and my fondness for the German musical version, which is stirring and awesome, if a bit heavy on the synthesizers.

theater, doings
