So the babies, Pip and Mojo, moved on to their new home on Monday or Tuesday (can't exactly remember which one) and it was really sad seeing the Mommy kitty cry for her babies that she couldn't find. Then a couple of days ago I realized she was getting sick. Her nipples were really hard (harder than they should have been after 5 days of no nursing) and she was cough/sneezing really bad. It was really pathetic. Nicole said she had an infection, and the doctor would look at it when she goes in for her spay this week.
Then when Nicole went to the Adopt-a-Thon yesterday, she took both Mommy and Saphire with her. That was the first time she took Mommy cat, and I wasn't really sure why- because we've pretty much found a home for her. Apparantly, though, the Pet Samaritan people thought to put Mommy cat with a few stray babies, and after only 20 minutes or so, she was nursing them, cleaning them, and protecting them! So now she's not getting spayed for another month or so, while she takes care of these tiny strays. Way to go Mommy Cat!
Also, Sunshine and Pookie saw each other for the first time in our new place. Pookie was chillin' on the couch, and we let Sunshine out of our room to investigate the living room. But Sunshine didn't make the first move. She kind of sniffed around, passed Pookie without even looking at her- until her third lap of the room. Then they had a stare down, until Pookie hissed once, and then ran down to her bedroom. So maybe our cat isn't a complete psychopath after all. She just needs to be introduced at her own pace. Or maybe Sunshine remembers Pookie from when she was a kitten. Either one shows good progress.
Poor Pookie, though. She's a big cat, so she could kick most other cats asses (except for the fact that she's declawed) but she has no balls! Even her hisses are puny and weak. I hope she puts forth more effort to get along with our cat than just running to her room. We may just have to keep them separated as previously planned.
