Interestingly, a(n anecdotal) majority of cheap ice-cream brands' vanilla is yellow, not cream.

Yes. Which is why the off-white I'm imagining is warm (leaning towards yellow) and not cold (leaning towards bluish/grey). Ahem. But yeah, I know what you mean.

Ooh, neopolitan! Would it matter what I was talking about? Like, if I said it was an ice-cream coloured pole or, um, I can't think of anything that's naturally striped (except Zebras, and they don't generally come in a wide range of colours.)

Or ribbons. Ribbons can be stripy, and if you said icecream coloured, I might well think cream/pink/brown stripes. At least, that'd be my insta-reaction.

But yes, I think it would depend what you're describing.
