I recently attended a panel discussion where prominent business academics discussed the financial panic and then yet-to-be passed bailout plan. They held it in room 130 of Bryan Hall, where most undergraduate business classes are recorded for later rebroadcast. Around 700 people found the room, a room which seats less than 200 people. I came early, and was not turned away, but was too late for a chair and forced to claim a window ledge. About 500 people were turned away at the door, and lead to other rooms in the building to watch the discussion live on a closed-circuit. For people who had grown nervous seeing events play out on television, however, I can imagine little reprieve to see the very same discussion mediated again, this time over high-quality flat panels their tuitions had paid for.
