Appearance: Charles stands at 5' 8" and has a rather small build that makes him light on his feet. Out of the school uniform, he tends to dress in browns, grays, and conservative styles of clothing, and pays little attention to the current trends (except to admire those on women). He's fond of hats, though, and always looks a bit unkempt, with unruly, bushy brown hair. His skin is a healthy pink that refuses to tan despite all his time in the sun, and he has warm brown, mischevious eyes. His features are a bit too sharp to be considered handsome, but he's not bad looking.

Personality: The first thing people notice about Charlie is that he is almost always grinning, whistling, or walking with a spring in his step. It's not an act - he's honestly just that cheerful, and energetic almost to the point of annoyance. Nothing short of affable and easygoing to everyone he meets, young Mr. Cooper is a breeze to get along with. Like an ungainly puppy, he's fun-loving, playful and perceptive to the feelings of others. He's also quick to jump into the role of cheerleader, vocally expressing his support and encouragement for his friends.

Call it nosiness or an older brother's overprotective streak, but once he's aware of someone else's troubles, Charlie has a hard time keeping his hands off. Despite his good intentions, delicacy and tact tend to fall by the wayside in the wake of his enthusiasm, and it's difficult to deter him once he's set his mind on something. It's almost as if he thinks of everyone around him as "just kids" in need of looking after, especially girls. Really, the only way to deal with his overbearing mother-henning is to endure it. Wrong a person he's set his sights on protecting, and he won't hesitate to rough somebody up - it makes him feel better about failing, whether or not it knocks any sense into them. When it really matters, though, Charlie always manages to muster some grace and pull through for his friends.

It's hard not to notice just how one-sided most of his relationships are, however. While he's steadfast to the end, it's easy for him to come off as shallow when there's little he seems to take seriously, especially not himself. Going to Charlie for a personal, soul-baring conversation simply won't end well, and he'll brush off both heartfelt confessions and insults with that everpresent smile of his and start poking fun right back. While he might seem like an open book, Charlie's been putting up a strong front for his family for so long that he just doesn't know how to show tenderness or weakness, much less let someone else help him. Treating things like a game is his method of defense, and he's at his most flippant when he's deeply upset. Secretly, all Charlie wants is for someone to see through his act for once. Living up in the clouds can get pretty lonely sometimes.

Regarding school, his restlessness makes him a bit spacey and prone to daydreaming during class, and it's not unusual for him to doze off when he thinks he can get away with it. Much to his teachers' chagrin, he seems far more intent on chatting up the other students or making a fool of himself for cheap laughs than applying himself fully, even when he knows the answers. And he knows them quite often - behind his guileless gaze lies plenty of intelligence that's currently only utilized for troublemaking. Despite all of these troubles, Charlie manages to scrape by with the high grades required at Adessi every time, passing it off as "luck". He holds himself back more than any outside force, but he shows no signs of realizing his full capability any time soon.

History: Charles was the only son born to a wealthy couple in the twilight of their childbearing years. His older sister Margaret was fifteen at the time, and off attending boarding school and then college in Massachusetts for most of his early childhood, so he grew up with his parents' full doting attentions. Harriet and Frank loved him dearly, though knowing they were getting older, taught him to be largely self-reliant, and he grew up an independent, well-behaved boy. Charlie was bright and it was assumed that he would be following in his sister's footsteps when he was old enough to attend a good college. Life was peaceful and happy for the Cooper family during that time.

The situation changed when he was eight. Margaret's husband died, and she struggled on alone for a few months before returning to her parent's home with a young daughter in tow. She'd been pregnant when he passed away and needed support during her childbirth. Harriet and Frank were all too happy to give it, but their reunion didn't last long. Margaret died soon after, due to complications, and left another daughter alone in the world.

Crushed by their loss, Charlie's parents did everything they could to tend to Margaret's two daughters, Marie and Alice. Harriet grew emotionally distant from Charlie in the process, but he hardly noticed. Instead, he became more involved in his nieces' upbringing - he'd picked out little Alice's name, after all, out of Alice and Wonderland. Secretly, Charlie had always been a bit lonely, and saw the new additions to their family as his new younger sisters. He learned to change diapers, clean and cook for them, and all of the hundred other tasks a parent does for their child without complaint. As a result, he never really had the time to make friends of his own, but rarely thought of himself first in those days either. Thanks to his high energy, Charlie was able to keep up with the two terrors as they grew. He was often the disciplinarian since their grandparents would let the two angelic looking girls get away with anything. In many ways, as the years passed, he took over the role of guardian more and more, relieving his aging parents. The atmosphere of grief in the Cooper home slowly lifted, and their lives together continued happily, if at a much more lively tempo.

In no time at all, it seemed, Charlie was highschool age. His parents had noticed that his grades had been slipping for the past few years, and thought a boarding school would be good for him. Charlie finally gave in to their suggestion, but not before stubbornly making a case for himself. Frank is still working at the law firm which he owns, having come out of retirement to support the family, and Harriet can't always be watching the girls. He still believes his rightful place is at home, with them, but can never mope for long. Charlie's resigned himself to making the best of his time at Adessi, and he's been doing well for himself so far.
