Anti-PETA

Sep 11, 2006 15:29

This is a public entry because I want word to spread, if someone comes across my LJ.

I want to make this disclaimer first. I am not a vegetarian, nor am I anti-vegetarian. To each his own.
I am also a great lover of animals. Having and taking care of many beloved pets since I was a little girl. My love for animals should never be called into question.

That being said, I have never been a fan of PETA. They always just kind of irked me. And then I come across this article (punked from ohnotheydidnt):
Fans the world over have been mourning the tragic death of Steve Irwin, but not, evidently, the animal lovers at PETA.

This morning, the animal lovers group's Dan Mathews says that it's "no shock at all" that Irwin died the way he did, and he's also branded Irwin a "cheap reality TV star."

Irwin died last week after being impaled by a stingray while filming a TV documentary, and was buried Saturday in a private ceremony on Saturday at the Australia Zoo, the animal park where he and his family tended lovingly to hundreds of creatures. But despite his reputation as a naturalist and conservationist, the Crocodile Hunter's on-screen antics clearly irked the animal lovers at PETA, according to MSNBC's Jeannette Walls.

"He made a career out of antagonizing frightened wild animals," says PETA's Mathews, "which is a very dangerous message to send to kids." And Mathews sniffs that Irwin's career wasn't particularly impressive - at least not to him: "If you compare him with a responsible conservationist like Jacques Cousteau, he looks like a cheap reality TV star."

I happen to know that Jacques Cousteau's grandson is a friend of Irwin's and they were shooting the documentary (the set Irwin was killed on) together. So obviously, if Phillipe Cousteau has no problem with Irwin, neither should PETA.

I loved Steve Irwin and I am really saddened by his death. He was a great lover of animals and made great headway in the conservation and protection of wild animals. His death is terribly tragic.

And then I read a comment in the post about PETA killing thousands of puppies and kittens and throwing them into dumpsters. So I investigated it a little further and found the site:

http://www.petakillsanimals.com/

There I discovered that they adopted animals from shelters and rather than finding them good homes, simply euthanized them and threw them in dumpsters. They have killed over 14,400 animals.

They take money and give it to convicted criminals.

They target children giving them pamphlets and flyers that say "your mother kills animals".

Please go to the site and read the articles and sign the petition to have their tax-exempt status revoked. I cannot do it myself because I am not an American.

People who love animals would not do these terrible things. PETA is a rude, mean-spirited and obviously, lying organization.(If you read the response to the "killing shelter animals" articles they are proven to have lied multiple times throughout). It needs to be stopped.

I rarely post strong opinions on this lj because I do not want to hurt others or offend them (despite this being a personal lj). But this is one thing I will take a stand about. The senseless deaths of 14,400+ animals, who could have led full happy lives, had they been adopted by a caring family, is disgusting and this organization needs to be stopped.

anti-peta, peta kills animals
