just as i suspected, i'm bored at work again. i loved having 2 days off last week, but coming back to work yesterday just seemed odd and boring. i was wondering when i could leave and run errands and see people and get stuff done. hell, even though all i did on friday was clean, i was on my feet all day, which felt great. i kinda wish i had one of those desks that you can raise and lower, depending on if you want to sit or stand while working. a few people in my office have those. they're only requested if the person has back issues or something. i don't have back issues, i just have boredom issues. i doubt they'd get me one, especially since my cube is in the middle of people and i highly doubt my cube neighbors would be OK with me constantly standing above them. anyway, i've just been feeling antsy with nothing to do.

dinner on saturday with my coworker and her husband was a complete success. everything turned out wonderfully and everyone had a great time. of course, i'm my own critic and found fault in a few of the things i cooked. i thought my risotto could've stood another cup of broth before being done. the rice was cooked perfectly, but the overall dish was a little dry. i wish i had something else for my guests to nibble on. they seemed content with the spice pecans i've had in my freezer for too long and some olives we cobbled together. the lamb was delicious, even though it had to be put on the grill after being taken off. an understandable mistake when taking the temperature of the meat. it's possible marshall hit a bone with the probe and got a temp reading much higher than the meat itself. totally OK, though, because the lamb ended up being cooked perfectly and had a great flavor. the tapenade was a success, too, and we're using it again later this week for chicken. marshall and i learned that for 4 people, 1 rack of lamb is plenty. it's totally OK because it left us with plenty of leftovers for dinner this week. the biggest surprise was the ginger ice cream. i was expecting the ginger to be in-your-face-ginger after it had sat in the freezer for a night. however, the end result was the opposite: a very mellow ginger flavor with just a hint of spice. it left your mouth feeling a little warm, even though it was a frozen food. i liked the texture that the crystallized ginger added to the ice cream, too. it paired perfectly with the grilled peaches. overall a fantastic decision on both our parts for dessert and it was a wonderful ending to a great evening. :)

many cheers to the hosts and hostesses of the parties we attended this past weekend.
spitemeat and his wife were gracious hosts for a wonderful fourth-of-july BBQ. the food was terrific. we all enjoyed the many appetizers and the lovely array of various meats for dinner. i was happy to lend a hand with dessert by making whipped cream for the strawberry shortcake and i thoroughly enjoyed making s'mores over the fire. of course, hats-off to aaron (sp?) a friend of the host/hostess who came up with an ingenious method of making 5 s'mores all at once! that was nifty and each s'more came out delicious and thoroughly cooked. we even got to see a little bit of the foster city fireworks show through the trees and above the fence. a perfect end to a great day. i, like always, ate too much and drank too much. luckily, i got everything out of my system before the next morning and our next party to attend.
cheers to
wookiewife and her husband for a wonderful kebab-beque. i really enjoyed meeting new people and learning how to play a great new game,
quiddler. we had lots of fun and even though i didn't win, at least i wasn't in last place. :P of course the ONE GUY who insisted he doesn't play because he "doesn't know words and shit" blew us all out of the water. that is, until his wife swooped in and took us all. :D totally fun and relaxing day and it was a great way to end a wonderful weekend.

this weekend is another eventful one. my niece and nephew turn 6 *shudder* tomorrow and their birthday party is on saturday. the
root beer float cupcakes, which i made for father's day, were such a big hit that they requested i make them again for them and their friends at their birthday party. how i can i say no, right? i'll be spending my friday night baking 2 batches of cupcakes. i figure, since you decorate with ice cream and whipped cream, i'd only decorate 1 batch and then if we need more, just do them individually. that way we don't end up with a huge mess like what happened the first time. (p.s. i found the perfect cupcakes for marshall's birthday:
chocolate whiskey and beer cupcakes!) anyway, it should be a fun party. i need to go shopping for their gifts. i was thinking of going later this afternoon, or even a quick errand after lunch. we'll see what happens. :)
sunday is nic's bridal shower. i'm wondering what it's going to be like and what i should get her. i mean, there are the obvious gifts like lingerie. since they're not registered at the "traditional" places, like marshall and i were, it's difficult coming up with something for her. i mean, it should be a gift enjoyed by both her and jesse. hmm... i'll think of something. perhaps while i'm out shopping for my dress to wear at their wedding, i'll find something appropriate.

well, i suppose it's time to get back to work. i really miss having LJ while i'm in the office. :(
