playing catch-up

the 'book infiltrated my dream last night. i had requested to add someone i knew from high school as a friend, even though we weren't like BFFs in high school. she popped up in my "people you may know" feed and i added her. the next day i check my email and a message from facebook appears in my inbox. "so-and-so has confirmed you as a friend." pretty standard, until i open the message and it went on to say "do note that so-and-so hesitated before confirming you as a friend. they waited such-and-such many minutes/hours before confirming." wouldn't that suck if that was how the REAL facebook friend confirmation emails were?

of course the reason why i dreamed about facebook is because right before falling asleep, marshall and i were talking about facebook and people we used to know from long ago and ex's trying to friend you. the girl i friended in my dream was real and i had requested to add her as a friend that day, which is why she showed up in my dream.

it's probably also related to the fact that without blogger or livejournal at work, i'm forced to spend all my free time on facebook. *shudder*

last weekend was probably one of the best weekends i've had recently. i had TWO friends from out of town visiting and i had plans with both of them. saturday, marshall and i headed up to san francisco to take advantage of the ONE warm and sunny day available for a pool party. i kept having to remind myself that i was in a pool in the middle of san francisco. we weren't even in-land for it to be plausible; we were right along the embarcadero with the water just across the street! we got to hang out with our friend ariesta, who moved to san diego a couple of years ago. our friend chandani and her boyfriend hosted the get-together. it was lots of fun and everyone had a great time. the next morning, we got up and headed up the other side of the bay to berkeley to meet up with my BFF-sanam, who was in town from NYC for her dad's birthday. sunday was the day to hang, so we drove up there and then headed over to the berkeley thai temple for "thai brunch". sanam explained that it was originally a fundraiser for the temple, but it caught on like wildfire and it's now become this huge event every sunday. people flock to the temple to get plates of really yummy homemade thai food. it's a great system they have, too. you exchange money for tokens, which you then use at the food tents. that way the people preparing and serving food don't have to worry about cash. everything is either $5, $6, or $7, with drinks $1. i got a one-item plate and it was plenty for brunch. plus, if you end up not using all your tokens, you can exchange them back for cash. we ended up keeping our unused tokens and the next time sanam is back in town, we'll go again. after we got our food, we joined a large group of young hippy hipsters on the lawn outside the library to eat. we ended up spending a good deal of time in the sun, which resulted in the first sunburn of the summer. you gotta start somewhere, right? anyway, i was having such a great time hanging out with friends and eating good food, that it didn't bother me at all. we eventually had to say good-bye once again to sanam. i really miss having her in the bay area. not only is she one of the friendliest and coolest people i know, she knows really interesting people. i haven't had a conversation like i had on sunday in a long time. it stimulated my brain, man. :P being in berkeley makes me miss living in santa cruz, too.

after we got home from the east bay, marshall and i headed out again to run some errands. since we moved into our apartment, we've had the ironing board but no iron. we remedied that and picked up a new one. neither of us have yet to use it, but i'm hoping it's a good one. we also picked up a hamper. mundane, yes, but definitely necessary. we've been throwing our laundry into open baskets on the floor of our closet. since marshall and i have been working out more than before, that means all our sweaty and stinky clothes are housed in a closed area with clean clothes. not good. so, we found a hamper we both liked and chucked one of the baskets. i'm hoping it's not too much of a pain to deal with a laundry bag and basket, since we still have to lug everything to the laundry room across the complex. oh, to have our own laundry room... anyway, the last place we visited was the nursery across the street. i wanted to garden and i didn't want to wait before too long. i also picked up plants that might do well in our little mostly sunless patio. the hanging plants get the most sun, so we picked up an angel wing jasmine plant and an african daisy. both do well with full-sun, which is what they'll get hung up. the rest of the plants were herbs: rosemary, basil, thyme and oregano. the smallest (thyme and oregano) were placed in the ledge box along the fence. they'll get the most sun. basil was placed in an area of the patio, which gets sun all afternoon. the rosemary will pretty much grow anywhere, so i put it in the shady corner with our hosta, which surprised both of us by coming back from last year, despite months and months of neglect. i love having plants on our patio and i'm hoping they all do well.

dariosmonkey and i have been meeting up once a week for dinner and we're completing our tour around the world through food. i'm not sure how it started, but it's been a lot of fun so far. we've done pizza, mexican, french-inspired (our rare delicacy dinner with sweetbreads and liver; tongue and pigs feet), sushi, ramen, chinese, thai, and korean. this week our destination is india. jes's old boss is indian, so she's going to ask her where we should eat. we decided to head to fremont, where you're bound to find a good indian place. since whenever i ask my indian friends where to eat, they always give me the smart-ass reply "my mom's house", i open for anything. marshall and i went to one place in sunnyvale. it was good, but both of us really miss the curry thursday meals at wetherspoons in london. for 5 quid you got a huge plate of curry (with rice and pompodom) and a pint. it was delicious. i'm sure we'll find a good place and i'm looking forward to curry and rice. the weekend before last marshall and i were spoiled with some awesome indian food at chandani's sister's graduation party. i need to go to the restaurant that catered the party cuz that was some really yummy food! anyway, i'm not sure where to go after indian. we skipped vietnamese. i know that east san jose has a concentration of vietnamese shops and restaurants. it'd be great to find an african restaurant around here. there USED to be an ethopian restaurant in downtown campbell, but they closed and it's now a bridal shop. but yeah, these dinners have been wonderful to look forward to each week. :)

work has been fine. i have only less than a week before my cube-mate comes back and i can return his job back to him. i'll be happy to do so, although i'm not sure what i'm going to do with all my free time. his job has sorta taken over all that i do, so losing that will take some adjusting. i'll certainly be excited to get back to what i actually LIKE about this job and i can give my projects the much needed attention they've been lacking the past couple of months.

oh yeah, i cycled 15 miles this morning. i'm really glad marshall suggested it and i followed through and didn't wuss out. i feel great.
