it's been a while...

so, it's been a while since i last posted. since my company has blocked all blog sites, i haven't been able to do what i normally do and post while i'm at work. sure, i could use the allotted 60 minutes i have, but what if i get distracted while i'm posting, which usually happens. i'll start a post, something work-related will pop up, and i'll come back and finish the post when i've got time later. i don't like posting under a time limit. i still think it's funny that sites like linkedin and facebook still work. you can dump a ton of time into facebook; more so than you can with livejournal or blogger. i dunno; i guess i'm only a few people, at least in my group, who blogs regularly. anyway, when i get home at nights lately, i haven't spent much time at my computer. i'm usually too tired to do much of anything, save watching TV. i turn on my computer, only to start the server to access hulu on the ps3, then it's time for naruto.

speaking of which, and i don't think i'm stepping on anyone's toes here since i'm the only one who reads/writes this blog that watches it, i'm really getting frustrated with the latest story arc of naruto. from what marshall said, the manga is pretty much wrapping up the whole series/story. the anime has a few books behind the manga and they can usually take a two-page spread in the manga and turn it into a whole 30-minute episode, but where the anime is now is really sad. it's like they're killing off every character. i was horrified and saddened when jaraiya (the guy in my icon) was killed off. that was the end of the previous story arc. the latest episode (at least for the US) had naruto's teacher die and he's the kind of guy you'd think would NEVER die. he was that cool and awesome. i cried; i'm not shy to admit it. marshall told me that at least towards the end of this arc that naruto kicks some serious butt. i'm looking forward to that.

yesterday, marshall and i headed up to san francsico with my friend nicole and her fiancé jesse. they told us about the san francisco oyster festival last week. one of the main reasons they wanted to go was to see cake. plus, of course, there was promised lots of beer and oysters. you certainly can't go wrong with that, right? we ended up having a really great time. nicole was psyched because she had just did her thesis presentation on friday and was ready to celebrate being done with school. she also kicked ass with it, too, which provided all the more reason to spend the day outside getting drunk. it was lots of fun. the band on when we arrived was good, but the second band wasn't. by that time, i had had my second beer and shared a plate of oysters and a chicken empanada, which meant i was ready for a nap. plus, being outside in the sun surrounded by hundreds of people, was tiring. i actually did end up taking a nap. oh yeah, it seemed everyone who came was smoking something or another. the majority were cigarettes, but there were definitely some potheads in the field. they were not shy about it either, so i was constantly being bombarded with pot and cigarette smoke. i think the contact high made me even more sleepy. the last time i got up and walked around, i felt like i was in this semi-conscious haze. my speech was kinda slurred too, not because i was wasted, but because i was buzzed and slightly stoned and half asleep. i think i asked for "garlic flies" at the booth. :P anyway, as soon as cake came on stage, i woke up and began dancing around. nic, who was pretty drunk at this point, and jesse pushed their way to the front of the stage. marshall and i stayed back where we had been all day and enjoyed the concert from there. they really woke up the crowd, which was great, and in addition to their new stuff, they played their old stuff. i wouldn't call myself a cake fanatic, but i know a handful of their songs. so yeah, by the time we got home last night, we were wind-burnt, slightly sun-burnt (it's SF, none of us got really burnt), still slightly buzzed and full of in-and-out. overall - a great day! :)

last week at work was probably one of the crappiest weeks i've experienced. i have a book that's shipping by this coming friday and we didn't even have a cover approved until wednesday of last week. still, that was only the cover design and not the actual cover. the actual cover routed through for approval on thursday and even thought the editor said "i like it", her boss butted in and wanted to see it, too. this meant that the editor needed to see it a second time, too, just to make sure. *sigh* the editor's boss, by the way, was supposed to have been on vacation. anyway, i had that going on and the worry that we won't have enough time for the authors to make any factual corrections in revised page proofs and we won't make our printer date, it was just a really stressful week. i also had a ton of other things happening, mostly related to the stuff i offered to take over while my cube-made is on leave. even though i can't take tomorrow off, i might end up taking next monday off, just so i can have a day away.

today is a shopping day. i would like to get a second swimsuit and some pool toys (pull buoy and hand-paddles) and maybe another pair of running/tri shorts. i also want to go to the mall to return a birthday gift and possibly look for something on which to spend money i got from my returned christmas gift. i also have a few gift certificates and coupons for express and victoria's secret. speaking of gift cards, i still have a $40 gift card for amazon.com and i have no idea on what to spend it. i could probably get a couple of blu-rays with it. i'll have to browse. anyway, we also need to go shopping for marshall's coworker, whose wedding we're attending next sunday. marshall expressed some interest in buying new clothes, too. then, of course, it's the usual sunday stuff. oh yeah, we also need to stop at my sister's at some point and pick up my birthday gift - new earrings! i can't wait to see what they look like in person. :D

friends, working out, concerts, festivals, shopping, work
