retail therapy

last sunday, after dropping off marshall at the airport, i found myself at REI. i needed to go to petco before going home and that's right next door. not sure why i felt the urge to go to REI, but i did. i walked out with more than i originally expected to get, but i liked everything that i got. i got a new bike jersey. i'd been eying for a while and i finally got it. it was a toss-up between getting it in blue or getting it in pink. the next two things i picked up helped make my decision. marshall has been telling me i should get a pair of tri-shorts, so i can get into the spirit of being in a triathlon. originally, i was just going to wear my normal bike shorts and a jersey. they had a few women's triathlon items at the store and i found a pair of tri-shorts and a tri-top. they match for the most part and they're both really comfortable, which is a big plus. the shorts are definitely comfortable and the padding in the butt area doesn't make it seem like i'm wearing a huge diaper underneath (my pearl izumi shorts have a LOT of padding...). i'm hoping the bright pink makes it better for me to be spotted. i made a promise to marshall's step-mom that i would wear bright colors, even though she's not coming to watch. marshall wore black and white for his triathlon they came to watch last year and she was so frustrated that she wasn't able to spot him on the course. :) i did also promise to put a flag on top of my helmet, but i think that's a bit of a safety hazard... i also bought new cycling gloves. the gloves i've been using currently are my weight-lifting gloves. they provide some padding, but are just not engineered to provide the kind of padding needed for gripping handlebars for an hour. i tried them out last weekend and they worked out perfectly! plus - they were on sale for $10 off the original price! i really wish cycling clothes weren't so damn expensive. unfortunately, they seem to go fast and by the time some of it ends up on the clearance rack, it's all the really bad leftovers that no one really wants anyway. the thing that i can really say to justify the high price is that i'll get a lot out of these clothes. i love my new bike jersey and the next time i do a brick, i have better clothes in which to do it. plus, if, say i agree to doing my own triathlon in the future, i have the clothes for it. ;)

further retail therapy happened on monday. i'd made a list a couple of months ago of the albums i wanted to buy. in that time, i've added a few more. i moseyed on over to amazon to see what i could find. i was really interested in getting some paramore for my collection. amazon had a special combo going which included

all we know is falling,
riot!, and
(don't judge) twilight soundtrack

the thing is, there are TWO paramore songs on that soundtrack that are not available on their other albums. i previewed other songs on there and it's all pretty decent stuff.

anyway, i got those 3, along with:
yeah yeah yeah's it's blitz!
the soundtrack for transformers: revenge of the fallen,
the dollyrots' eat my heart out (which was super expensive, i don't know why it was this much - maybe it's super rare?), and finally
fireflight's unbreakable

i got super-saver free shipping on the 3 i bought through amazon itself and those arrived yesterday. the others are shipping via USPS and who knows when they'll come in. in my past experiences, i've had things arrive far earlier than expected via USPS, but we'll see. i'm not in a huge rush, but i would like to see them arrive soon.

tonight is a sleepover at sarah and mike's. i'm actually considering riding my bike to their place this evening and then riding home in the morning to feed the kitties before breakfast at celtcub's. i was, at one point, considering riding directly TO liam and paco's place and i have a feeling i could do it, but it's the ride back i'm dreading... however, the ride to and from sarah and mike's is a piece of cake (only about 2.5 miles each way) and something that can easily be done this evening and early tomorrow morning.

still waiting on an update from the shop regarding my car. *sigh* one of the responses on their yelp site was from someone who had a similar experience to mine. they promised one date, but it kept dragging on. i can't put the entire blame on the shop. this delay is partially to blame on the dealership who's been supplying parts to them. they mistakenly provided the WRONG part twice to the shop. now, personally, if i was working for the shop, i'd be riding that dealership to get the correct part to me. i'd be on their ass every day, multiple times a day, so that we would be able to meet the original estimated date. in any case, i'm REALLY hoping i can pick up my car today. i want my car finished and done by the time i pick it up. grr... >:(
