well, i'm officially finished with this semester and thus my first year of the MLIS program. honestly, the hardest class was my children's programming class. each and every assignment required, not only research skills, but a TON of creativity. you really had to think like a 3 year-old or an 8 year-old. what would i like? would i sit through this storytime? would i enjoy listening to this book or singing this song? i know i spent the majority of my time working on this class and not my management class. i also enjoyed it a whole lot more, if that's really saying anything. who, honestly, LIKES a management class?
overall, i think i've figured out what i want to do with my MLIS degree. i know i mentioned becoming a children's librarian, but even though it would be fun and creative, i'm a big geek. the one class i really enjoyed this year was my database class. i think from now on i'm going to take an archival/DBM route and see where that leads me. i know that the job market for database management and possible digital archives might be better than anything related to public libraries. i could just be fooling myself, but in this area anything digital-related is usually a sound thing for a job-hunting. who knows, maybe i might convince marshall to move to berkeley and i could work at pixar university and archives! :P not kidding, i saw that job listing on SJSU's job site. if i didn't live down here, i would have TOTALLY interviewed for it.
anyway, i'm free for the summer. let the wedding planning begin!
