little thing #1: my new
swimsuit arrived a day early yesterday. i was happy to see it arrived and i tried it on last night. i love the bottoms. they're super comfortable and don't push flab around into unruly lumps. everything is contained and actually quite flattering. there is also enough fabric on the sides to contain my hips, which is also really nice. i like them a lot. the top is nice, too. i think once i start to trim down a little more, i'll feel more comfortable. marshall said it looked like i was wearing a one-piece and i think once my body is a little less lumpy, it won't look TOO much like a one-piece anymore. overall, i'm really happy with my purchase. after it goes through the wash, i'll be ready to use it. :)
little thing #2: i noticed earlier this morning that LJ increased the amount of userpics i can have with my paid account. they increased my allotment to 45 userpics. i increased my collection to 44 now and i'm really happy with the return of some icons and the addition of new ones (the one used for this post is from dead like me). i'm sure i'll keep cycling through icons as i find them. if i had the money to throw around, i'd just pay to have 100 for my account. but really...100 seems like too many. almost.
little thing #3: i've been listening to my
pandora station a lot lately. marshall inspired my station and it's all chick rock. i'm really digging a lot of the music they've introduced and i've got a running list of albums i want to purchase. i'm debating whether or not to just buy the albums from itunes or find them on amazon so i have the actual album in my CD book. i'm kind of "old fashioned" that way. i really like having the hard media to back up my itunes library. yes, there certainly are plenty of single songs i've downloaded, but by and large my collection is largely CD-based. i like having something to hold when it comes to music. i love looking at the album art and reading the liner notes. it just adds something to the overall experience. if i buy via amazon, i could probably find these used (which is just fine by me) and really cheap. some of the albums i'm looking to purchase are:
eight arms to hold you, by veruca salt
the healing of harms and unbreakable, by fireflight
riot! and all we know is falling, by paramore
the secret life of... and hook me up, by the veronicas
eat my heart out, by the dollyrots
breakaway and all i ever wanted, by kelly clarkson
spend the night, by the donnas
little thing #4: it seems the breakfast club is taking it on the road. we've made plans to celebrate
damneddonkey's birthday with a small camping trip. i'm really looking forward to this. i love camping and kick myself whenever a summer goes by and we haven't gone camping. marshall and i will need to buy a tent and that will be an experience to find a tent to fit a 6'5" man. the last tent we used was borrowed from a friend and it was one of those hotel-like tents that was really tall. i'd like to find a small enough pup-tent that's easy to set up. i also love camping food: bbq'ed hot dogs and burgers, s'mores and granola. all my favorites! so yeah, i'm looking forward to this little trip. :D
little thing #5: last night marshall and i met up with my friend nicole and a few others to go to the san jose improv to see
super gay confederates of comedy with jarrod harris and friends. it was entertaining. the hook was that all of the comedians are from the south, mostly georgia it seems. the MC was funny, as was the second guy andy-something. i liked his comedy style. he was laid back and relied on observant comedy. the one girl in the group was OK. i laughed at a couple of her things, but she seems really new to stand-up. the headliner started out funny, but after a while i just got bored. i think he was up there for too long. everything started to sound the same and i was over it. i even started to yawn, which just isn't good. sure he was a funny, but his shtick just got old after a while. we ate our dinner there and i got nachos. they had such great potential, but they fell flat. with the two beers i had with it, i woke up this morning feeling less than stellar. :( aside from that, we all had a great time. :)
little thing #6: a couple of weeks ago i attempted to watch the movie,
dead like me: life after death. i got so hooked on the TV show that i thought i would give the movie a try. well, the first things that should've tipped me off were the reviews on its netflix page. the majority of reviews were very poor and for a few very good reasons: there were TWO cast changes. the first, and biggest one, was the absence of rube (
mandy patinkin). rube is like the glue that holds the little group of reapers together. he has a WONDERFUL character and mandy plays it so well. the second, and actually more annoying, staff change was for the character of daisy adair. in the TV show, she was played by
laura harris. i thought harris did a FANTASTIC job with this character. she really did exude a screen blonde bombshell from the 30s (she apparently died on the set of gone with the wind). my favorite line of hers was "knew, blew, tomAto, tomAHto...". i really liked her. they apparently couldn't get her for the movie, so instead of removing the character (which is what they should've done), they switched the actress. the movie daisy was played by
sarah wynter. it just didn't fit at all. there were also many little differences throughout the story and background and it just didn't feel the same. it would've been lovely if they simply made a 1hr 30min episode, instead of this...this thing. the differences were glaring and off-putting. i turned it off after about 30 minutes.
+_+_+
those are all my little things. now on to the meme (courtesy of
celtcub.
1. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE?
i wasn't truly named after her, but my dad had a girlfriend in 5th grade named michelle. she, in turn, was named after her grandfather's fighter plane in WWII (and probably the name of a woman he met while overseas...)
2. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED?
i think it was after an episode of dead like me, which was a couple of weeks ago. the episode depicted the death of a pet and i have a really hard time watching that. it took me completely by surprise how emotional it made me. i haven't dealt with a lot of animal deaths (cassie, tango and nino), but they were all really rough. we had cassie since i was 2. she was my sister's cat, but really became mine after my sister moved out. she died when i was 19. 17 years is a long time to have with the same pet. she was my absolute favorite and her death was really hard. tango was my sister's dog for a mini-moment before she left her for us to handle. tango was a beautiful chow and definitely NOT house-broken or trained. we had to keep her outside at all times. she was only with us for a few months before she had to be put down for health reasons. she was a purebred and had all the horrible genetic problems that come with that. her death led to the adoption of nino, our second cat. he passed away about a year ago (we got him when i was 6). he was the quiet cat in our house and mainly stayed outside. he started to cuddle more as he got older. he eventually lost all his teeth, but managed to keep eating. after a while, it got to the point where his eating became less and less. my mom tried to keep him on fluids, but he just wasn't happy. i remember saying good-bye to him and he was curled up in a corner in the living room. he was so tiny and just looked tired. he was MY cat and his death was difficult. my mom's house seems so empty without an animal now. both my sister and i have commented on how we keep looking for the cat. for a while after he died, i would think i saw him in the corner of my eye and i'd look, but there wasn't anything there.
3. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING?
it's OK... sometimes when i want to write well, i end up writing my worst. i've been really working hard on making sure it's legible. i've had pretty consistent bad hand writing since i was in school. my spanish teacher in high school started calling me dr. michelle, since my handwriting was so bad it was like a doctors. :)
4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT?
i've grown tired of turkey, so i've been getting sliced chicken. it's great and just as versatile as sliced turkey. i love all lunch meat, though: salami, mortadella, prosciutto, roast beef, pastrami, whatever - i'll eat it all! :D
5. DO YOU HAVE KIDS?
nope. we have two little furry kids.
6. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON, WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU?
i think so. there's got to be some reason why my friends still hang out with me. it'd be interesting to see what they see...
7. DO YOU USE SARCASM?
psh, no... >.> yes, i use sarcasm. i use it quite a lot. in fact, it's my litmus test to see who around me has a sense of humor. it's my default attitude when i'm around people i don't know. i think i use it as a defense mechanism. i find it easier to be aloof and distant around strangers, this includes using sarcasm when i have to speak. i'm surprisingly shy in new situations.
8. DO YOU STILL HAVE YOUR TONSILS?
i do, even though they look like cratered moons in the back of my throat.
9. WOULD YOU BUNGEE JUMP?
hell no. my greatest fear is falling and i'd rather not fall, only to be propelled back up and fall again and repeat ad nauseum. no thanks.
10. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CEREAL?
hmm...this is a toughie. i always try to get a variety of cereals whenever i buy it. the one which i will absolutely repeatedly buy from week to week is cheerios (PLAIN cheerios). they're so simple and delicious. you can sweeten them up with sliced bananas, but they're great on their own. i'll also put them in a baggie and eat them without milk as a snack. :D
11. DO YOU UNTIE YOUR SHOES WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF?
nope, i usually just pull them off. i know it's really bad for the life of the shoe, but it's just so tedious having to untie them first.
12. FAVORITE CELEBRITY CRUSH?
i think kate winslet is the one celebrity who really makes me melt.
13. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM?
i love the versatility of vanilla. my favorite is sprinkling it with coffee grounds and a drizzle of bailey's. mmmmm....
14. WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE?
their eyes and their teeth. i tend to stare at teeth when people talk. i also look at breasts and crotches. being short, i'm usually at an angle where my eyes tend to rest looking at breast-level. i can't help it.
15. RED OR PINK?
both are OK, neither are my true FAVORITE colors.
16. WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOURSELF?
my inability to speak up. i'm so worried about making someone angry or sad, that i usually just let whatever is bothering me bubble inside. it's been something i've been really trying to overcome with marshall, as i tend to shut down when i'm angry or feeling bad about something instead of saying something and giving him the courtesy to tell him how i'm feeling. it's unfair to him and our relationship. i think i just don't know how to move on from where i'm feeling to making it better.
17. WHO DO YOU MISS THE MOST?
my grandma and grandpa. i miss them constantly. i'm actually jealous of my sister because she got to have them at her wedding and i won't. they didn't even get to meet marshall and that makes me sad. they played an integral part in my growing up and who i have become.
18. DO YOU WANT EVERYONE TO COMPLETE THIS LIST?
i really couldn't care.
19. WHAT COLOR PANTS AND SHOES ARE YOU WEARING?
brown boots and dark blue jeans.
21. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW?
pandora radio
22. IF YOU WERE A CRAYON WHAT COLOR WOULD YOU BE?
cerulean blue
23. FAVORITE SMELLS?
i love the smell of marshall's chest at the end of the day. it's warm and soapy and just comforting. i'm also a fan of the small of garlic and onions sauteeing in olive oil. again, it's a comforting smell and something i associate with my mom and my grandma. everyone talks about how smelly their hands get after handling garlic and i LOVE that smell.
24. WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON YOU TALKED TO ON THE PHONE?
nicole!
25. DO YOU LIKE THE PERSON WHO SENT THIS TO YOU?
i do :)
26. FAVORITE SPORTS TO WATCH?
baseball and i've grown to enjoy hockey, both of which i prefer watching in person than on TV.
27. HAIR COLOR?
according to a stylist at the salon i go to, it's the most beautiful shade of beige he has ever seen.
28. EYE COLOR?
green (they're crazy! according to BFF-sarah)
29. DO YOU WEAR CONTACTS?
i used to. now i rely mostly on my glasses and only use contacts when i go on bike rides or for special occasions. when i'm staring at a computer all day, my eyes feel better with glasses and are less tired at the end of the day.
30. FAVORITE FOOD?
god, what a horrible question. i love ALL food and it's really hard to pick a favorite. i think i'll cop out and say...anything my mom makes.
31. SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDING?
i'm not a fan of gore. i'm more of a fan of the psychological thriller, something that let's my imagination do the work. to answer this question, though, i like realistic endings.
32. LAST MOVIE YOU WATCHED?
state of play - totally recommend it.
33. WHAT COLOR SHIRT ARE YOU WEARING?
white
34. SUMMER OR WINTER
winter, hands down.
35. HUGS OR KISSES?
i LOVE hugs, especially big bear hugs (BFF-sarah's mike gives the best bear hugs, second to my uncle and marshall's dad gives good firm hugs, too) - i love being squeezed! i hate wimpy hugs.
37. CURRENT FAVORITE SONG?
decode by paramore (horribly saddened by the fact it's only available on the twilight soundtrack - boo, whore!)
38. FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME?
another horrible question. i'll give the movie that i've continually watched over and over again since i was 3: disney's alice in wonderland.
39. WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING NOW?
i'm not reading anything right now, but i need to get started on christopher buckley's
boomsday. my coworker lent it to me like a year ago and i haven't even started!
40. WHAT IS ON YOUR MOUSE PAD?
something advertising our IT help desk
41. WHAT DID YOU WATCH ON TV LAST NIGHT?
we flipped between the unusuals and kitchen impossible
42. FAVORITE SOUNDS?
i absolutely love the sound of a purring cat. i also love hearing marshall say my name.
43. ROLLING STONES OR BEATLES?
i have the rolling stones to thank for my dad's favorite song to sing when he has to decline my request for something..."you can't always get what you want, but if you try real hard...you might get what you need".
45. DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL TALENT?
i can unwrap a starburst using my tongue and teeth. *shrug*
46. WHERE WERE YOU BORN?
santa clara, california
47. WHOSE ANSWERS ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING BACK?
anyone's
48. HOW DID YOU MEET YOUR SPOUSE/SIGNIFICANT OTHER?
we met through my roommate junior year of college. she wanted to make me feel included, so she invited me to marshall's birthday dinner at chili's. i didn't really know anyone, but it was fun. :)
