so, today i decided to do something. i've been so happy with my ears since they've been pierced (whodda thunk?!) that, well, i decided to add a bit to it. this afternoon i stopped in my neighborhood piercing shop, which moved apparently, to have a second set of holes put in just above my current ones. i went a little smaller; a 16g, compared to the 14g ones i had put in last year. the piercer asked if i was going to stretch out the holes underneath. i said that i might, which is true (i just need to buy the tapers to stretch them), so he adjusted the space between the two holes so that if the holes underneath are bigger it would actually look GOOD. the process was definitely different from what i had experienced before. when i had my first holes done last year, it was almost like a re-piercing, since i had had my ears pierced before. the *2* times i had that done, i got the gun treatment at claire's. anyone who knows piercing, knows that the gun stinks. and it does. you're basically punching a BLUNT object through skin. fun, huh? but it's easy and doesn't involve any sterilizing or needles, which is why they do it. my sister dragged me in the first time when i was 8 and then i had them redone with the gun again when i was in college for my brother's *first* wedding (by the order of the bride). so, when i went in to have the first holes done, i wanted to do it right. he had some difficulty with one of my ears, since the multiple piercings done on the same spot developed some scar tissue. he did a fine job, though, and they healed wonderfully.
so today, i went back to the same guy. he asked if he had done my first holes for me and i told him he did. he complimented the healing, which goes for me as well as him. the healing does work out best when the patient takes good care of the holes after the initial piercing. he went to work and took his time (a good 5 minutes) making sure that the marks he made to mark the piercing spot were even. not only did they need to be even on each ear, but when you look from the side and when you look straight ahead. he corrected himself a couple of times, but after i took a look at it and agreed with the placement, he got to work. the first ear was easy-peasy, hardly felt like a thing. just a sharp pinch and slight discomfort when following up with the actual ring. the second one hurt just a little bit more (he told me it's because i was expecting it this time), but it went fine. my ears were hot for about 20 minutes later and stayed bright red for most of the afternoon. they look good now, though. i just need to keep up with the cleaning regiment he gave me (diluted bactine rinse twice a day) and not touch/remove/fiddle with the jewelry for 2 months.
here's the side-view. earlier this evening, i switched out the bottom rings for the ones i have that match the new ones. i'm very coordinated.
a close-up. even just after 6 hours, they look almost healed. not too shabby. :)
me likey!
granted, my ears are still very sore. a few times today i've rubbed up against my ears with something and nearly jumped because they still hurt. even with the 16g, they're still much thicker than your department-store earrings (according to
body art forms those are about a 20-22g). it'll be interesting sleeping with these tonight. hopefully they don't hurt too much. :)
+_+_+
marshall leaves for LA tomorrow. he looked up his itinerary this morning and apparently his flight leaves at 11am tomorrow morning. we BOTH thought his flight wasn't leaving until the afternoon (i thought it wasn't leaving until the evening). this means even less time to hang out before he leaves. it's weird how i'm feeling all "don't leave me!!", when he's only going to be gone for 4.5 days. the times before when he's gone to LA without me, it's during holidays, so i just stay with my parents during these times. this time, though, it's during the week, which will be weird. i'll be waking up monday-thursday by myself and eating dinner by myself. although i've invited my parents over for dinner on wednesday; i'm thinking of making veal marsala with some asparagus risotto and a fresh baby greens salad. but still, that's one night. i'm sure the time will fly, but it hasn't been since before we met each other, that i'll be alone in an apartment. but, i have plenty of movies and video games to keep me busy. plus, i want to organize my half of the office, and that'll take some time, i'm sure. *sigh* i'll miss him, though.
