originally, themarshal and i thought about down-playing valentine's day this year. it was going to be the week after our big move and i didn't want either of us to have any pressure to buy each other a gift. well, that sentiment (for me, at least) lasted about a minute. i found myself a few weeks ago browsing thinkgeek and jinx for something to give to marshall for a small valentine's day gift. last year, i totally splurged and got him a frogman frog. this time, i set my sights a little lower in price. i wanted to get him something he would truly enjoy. i was seeing things on thinkgeek and jinx that he would like, but not really be overjoyed to see. plus, i kept seeing things that I wanted, which really defeated the purpose of looking for a gift for him. then, at the end of last week, it hit me. so, i browsed amazon and bought exactly what i wanted to get him: l.a. story. he loves that movie. i love that movie, too. i thought it would be so perfect for him, because, ya know, he's from l.a. and all. i gave it to him last night and he was so happy! he *squee'ed* and i knew i had gotten him the right gift.

originally, he was worried his gift wouldn't arrive in time. since i told him i had gotten him something at the same time i bought it, he started to worry a bit for not having actually gotten me anything. i had no clue what he was getting me. he mentioned a few days ago what size i like my sweats. then he asked what my in-seam was. i THOUGHT he was buying me another pair of yoga/exercise pants, which i totally need, but then again, HE bought me the pair i currently have, so why would he be asking what size i like. anyway, i got home before he did last night and pulled a package from the mailbox. i had a feeling it was my gift. i sneaked a peak at the sender and it was jinx.com. my mind immediately went to the hoodie i originally thought of getting him, which i would also want for myself. well, i was surprised when i opened it. it wasn't that hoodie, BUT something, actually somethingS, that were totally better. i got this shirt and these pants. does my guy know me or what? a t-shirt and sweatpants - perfect! :)**

our plan for dinner was to go to the local sushi place. the bonus was we were WALKING to the sushi place. our new apartment is only a few blocks from michi suschi. we'd been there more than once and definitely like what they've got. their menu is like a tome of a million different types of rolls. marshall's favorite is the "surf and turf": a spicy tuna roll topped with thin (cooked) strips of steak and drizzled with a horseradish sauce. he loves this thing. i've tried it and i don't share QUITE that much love. it's not bad, but not something i'd order myself. anyway, after we opened our gifts, we headed out. we get there and the place seems really dead; no one in the waiting area and it's really quiet inside (this place is usually hopping on fridays and saturdays). we go in and the host asks if we have a reservation. we didn't (com'on, this is a sushi restaurant, not the ritz!) and he looked at his list. it seemed that there was a table or 2 open, but the reservations were set for a time that wouldn't have given us enough time to eat and not enough time for the cooks to make our food. so, sadly, we were turned away. the host apologized and handed us a $10-off coupon for our next visit. after we left, i realized i should've asked about the sushi bar. i noticed one or two seats open and if we could've waited for that. anyway, we left and thought of some place else to eat. i didn't want to risk going to a place in downtown campbell and getting turned away again. there is a chinese place down the street, so we ended up there. i looked around the place as we waited for a table and noticed that there were very few asian people there. a GOOD asian restaurant (chinese, japanese, korean, etc) will HAVE very few white people eating there but LOTS of asian people eating there. i noticed at this place last night, there were TONS of white people and very few asians. that should've tipped me off right there. it wasn't awful, but it wasn't great, either. it was really cheap food, lots of sauce and very little spice. we ordered ALL "spicy" foods and none were actually spicy. it's possible we just ordered the wrong things, but i don't think we'll be going there again. now that we're in a different part of town, we need to find a different set of restaurants to frequent.

in any case, we headed home to a bottle of champagne. i asked if marshall wanted to watch l.a. story and he did. so we sat back and enjoyed the movie. it was better than i remembered it being. i LOVE all the l.a. stereotypes going on and the story itself is great. it's also super fun to watch sarah jessica parker when she was younger, just bouncing all over the place. she plays that part so well. plus, you gotta love steve martin. he's so wonderful in this movie. it was, i think, a perfect valentine's day movie to watch. :D

+_+_+_+

i'm feeling better today than i was yesterday. i haven't been having the greatest week this week. work has been taxing my nerves and my patience. luckily, one of my problem-child books is now safely at the printer and i'm crossing my fingers for absolutely NO problems until it's printed and bound and on the shelves. the other one, though, is becoming more and more of a headache. right now, we've set a date when the files WILL BE at the printer, no matter what. i'm just praying that it'll work out. i'm so done with this title. it's really frustrating picking up a project in the middle of it. plus, how both of these books were handled before they even made it into production was terrible. there was no direction or management of the authors and so now they have like free-reign on everything. you can't manage them at all. i can't wait to start afresh on a new title that i manage from beginning to end. *sigh*

i'm looking forward to the holiday weekend, though. my plan for tomorrow is clean clean clean! i'd love to get the old apartment cleaned tomorrow and all in one day. i want to be done and finished. this way, i can just focus all my attention on the new place and get everything squared away. i got my new desk the other day and put it together wednesday night. i swear, this company needs to meet with ikea and revamp their instructions. seriously - the worst assembly instructions EVER! marshall WAS thinking of getting the same desk, but after having to put it together, he's rethinking the idea... but we still need to work on the office and get everything organized and put away. we also have most of the living room to put back together. we still need to figure out what to do with our shelves. i had an idea and i'm hoping it might fly. no matter what we do, they're going to be in places that are not the most ideal, but should work out in the end. i'm confident, though, we'll have the entire place finally put together by the end of the month.

then we can start planning a housewarming party! woot!

** i'm currently wearing my new t-shirt (i'm also wearing the "m" necklace marshall got me for christmas), but sadly my work looks down upon the wearing of sweat pants. if that wasn't the case, i'd be wearing my sweats, too. :P
