...and i also like looking at how others keep their desktop.
this is a desktop meme (you certainly do not have to post your own desktop if you don't want to). i've posted below (behind a cut, they're big) 2 screenshots of my desktop: one for work and one for home. in both you'll see that i keep my desktop EXTREMELY clean. i remove everything except for the necessities. everything that i need or want at any given moment is in my quick launch bar. also, in both cases, i auto-hide my taskbar, but i've shown it here, so you can see what i've got. as for the wallpaper? i browse deviantart for wallpapers. i rarely go with any of the fanart, although i've seen quite a number of items which i like a lot. i like a lot of the digital and abstract art. i've never noticed until now the "night and day" aspects of each of my desktops. my work on is bright and sunshiny, as to keep me away. since i use my home computer at nights, mostly, it's very dark and unobtrusive. anyway...here they are!
this is my work desktop. very clean, but i like having a lot of room on my taskbar, which is why my taskbar is kind of thick. it's not totally unheard of for me to have multiple windows open at once (in this shot, you'll see my outlook inbox, mozilla - within has probably 3 different tabs open, the current one being LJ, an AIM conversation with the username blacked out, my FTP site, "my documents", and our database system - i've blacked this out because it is our own proprietary software and i didn't want to break any rules. if you're absolutely curious, my quick-launch is thus (from left to right): "show desktop", calculator, outlook, database system, database system #2 (both systems talk to each other, each holds certain kinds of information for each and all of our products), LEAP (file transferring software), "my documents", a document template for taking file-list screenshots, i-explorer, firefox, aim,
rainlendar my desktop calendar, our department server, quicktime, and itunes. so, this is what i stare at while i'm at work. i love the image.
my home desktop is quite similar. everything is clean. sometimes something i've downloaded will sit on my desktop for a bit, but i like to keep everything very minimal. i don't usually have too many windows open at home. maybe one or two. quite frankly, if i'm home, i'll usually have WoW up on my screen. i also love having the "address" bar on my taskbar. this makes things easy when i just need to check my email or look up something on thottbot. :) my quick-launch is thus: ad-aware, microsoft word, american mcgee's alice, winDVD, firefox, "show my desktop", ventrillo, world of warcraft, WoW ace updater (automatic mod updater), limewire, itunes, winamp, divx, media player, quicktime, and AIM. i also got this image from deviantart. i like just staring at it. it reminds me of a few spots near santa cruz.
