it's getting a little sad that i have to check to see what my last post was about before writing. i really need to work on writing more than once a week.
so, last friday i left off with my sickness. i'm still sick. it's getting slightly better. i no longer feel like ripping off my face to forcefully unclog my own sinuses with my fists. last friday was pretty bad and saturday wasn't much better. it was carus and ian's birthday on saturday. i felt horrible that i wasn't running around with them and playing. i just didn't have the energy. i also was hard of hearing (clogged sinuses leave me with really bad hearing), so all i could really do was sit in the shade and try my hardest not to fall asleep. i think at some point i broke a fever cuz i was dripping with sweat and it wasn't all THAT hot. anyway, we left in the early afternoon, right before naptime, to go home and have my own nap. i slept for about 4 hours when i got home. by the time i got up, marshall was already out the door to go to a party up on the peninsula for a college friend of his. i had enough energy to make it to nordstrom rack for a new set of sheets. our white sheets are pathetic. i picked up a nice upgrade: 500 thread count. a queen size set was only $65. sadly, they only came with 2 pillowcases and marshall and i both sleep with 2 pillows each. i had to improvise as they didn't have any matching brand pillowcases that were in the same color. i picked up a patterned set of calvin klein ones that sorta go together. just as long as the flat sheet doesn't have a huge hole in the middle, i'm happy. i was hungry afterwards, so i trotted across the street to trader joe's. i picked up a can of their chunky minestrone soup, crackers and trio of goat cheeses (herb, plain, and 4-pepper). i watched "west wing" episodes and managed to put in a few minutes of WoW time.
sunday was slightly better. i managed to have enough energy to leave the house and run errands. we drove up to where the party was the previous night because marshall forgot his sunglasses. then we headed back down and went to whole foods, cosentino's, and safeway. dinner that night consisted of 3 different cheeses from whole foods and deli meats from cosentino's. while we ate we watched man of the year. yeah, the movie where robin williams plays a jon stewart-like character that runs for president and wins. you'd think, going into the movie, that it was going to be a comedy. unfortunately, there's a subplot with laura linney and jeff goldblum that was like a conspiracy thriller. the two plots intertwine and it was difficult to see what the movie was supposed to be. comedy? thriller? yeah, the movie was eh... and nothing more. unless you REALLY want to see it, that's your deal. i won't see it again and i won't buy it. so that's that. really was a weird movie...
i ATTEMPTED to go to work on monday. i called in and said i'd make it a half-day and be into work around noon/1pm. i got there and immediately was told to go home. i apparently look like crap, even when i looked in the mirror and thought i didn't look half-bad. for being sick, that is. i checked my email before i went in and saw that there was a HUGE problem with one of my titles (the title on the title page was misspelled). yeah, so NOT my fault, but really, this is 1 of like a million solutions manuals for this one set of calculus books. the compositor that's been working on the text books was also working on the solutions manuals. she hasn't had a day off in over a year dealing with all these books. yeah, not a good thing. so, we found a solution and it's getting fixed. there were a few issues with other titles, but it wasn't anything a few emails couldn't fix. i was here for about an hour, hour and a half before i heeded everyone's advice and went home. i wasn't feel super sick, but i wasn't feel great either. i was so bored when i got home.
tuesday and wednesday have been catch-up days. i had about 12-14 new titles come into production since friday, so there was plenty for me to do. tuesday i did all the necessary data entry of dates and schedules for all of them and that took all day. i wanted to leave early, but i was on a roll and left at my regular time. i got home and attempted a nap. tuesday night was the midnight premier for harry potter and the order of the phoenix and i knew i wasn't going to get enough sleep that night. the nap didn't work, so marshall and i watched naruto while we ate dinner. we headed over to santana row two wait in line for the movie. we got there and they didn't have a line. no line at a midnight premier? the thing was, they didn't have a line and they couldn't have people hanging outside in front of the theater. yeah, it was completely messed up. there were people that got there really early and started their own line along the side of the building. what's wrong with that? they were orderly and weren't causing any sorta ruckus. seriously, how hard is it to make a line? they had 3 or 4 showings that night, you need a line. especially since they started letting people in the theater at 10pm. yeah, it was a mob to get in. why? cuz there was NO LINE!! at least we got to go in early, rather than waiting until 11:30 to go in. anyway, all organization problems aside, the movie was great.
imelda staunton was FANTASTIC as dolores umbridge. she performed that role perfectly. it really was amazing. you REALLY hated her.
helena bonham carter was perfectly casted as bellatrix lestrange. i love her and she did such a great job portraying this demonic character. everyone else did a great job, as well. overall, it was a good portrayal of the book. with 800+ pages to work with, they had their job cut out and they didn't a really good job. i had a few qualms with the stylistic choices, but that's just because the entire time i watched the movie, i played the book in my head. what i saw my head sometimes didn't match what i saw on screen and it was difficult to digest sometimes. :) my biggest bone to pick? nymphadora tonks. i loved how
natalia tena portrayed tonks, she really did a good job (even though i wished she had more screen time), i really did. but, tonks is supposed to have SHORT SPIKY HAIR! NOT long hair. tonks is one of my favorite characters. i dressed up as her for halloween last year. that's all they had to do was make her hair short and spiky and it would've been perfect. *sigh* oh well... at least we only have to wait a year for harry potter and the half-blood prince! :P
i'm almost done playing catch-up. i have a few titles that need some attention and then i'm done, for the moment at least. who knows if i'll get another onslaught of titles tomorrow. *sigh* i think i'll be sleeping during my lunch today. i need sleep. oh yeah, my sickness has spread to marshall. *sigh*
