I am planning my almost four year old’s birthday party. She wants a puppy party. This is after wanting a “brown and white puppy” party, a “puppy and dinosaur” party or a “puppy and dragon” party, and now we’re back to just a puppy party, with mostly brown and white puppies. This will be my second Compact party, although my first of 2007, as Lola’s party was pretty Compact-y, given our then-and-still-existing financial predicament.
So, here are the plans:
Invitations will be cards with the info and with pictures of dogs that were cut out of cards and magazines attached. Cut-out pictures of dogs will also adorn the thank you notes.
Cut-out pictures will also be attached to the brown paper “doggie bags” the guests will take away in lieu of “goodie bags” - the bags will be filled with bone-shaped cookies/biscuits for the kids.
I was going to have the kids decorate dog-shaped cookies with white frosting/icing and chocolate chips and sprinkles, a game of “puppy puppy whose got the bone” and we’ll make little felt puppy ear headbands. Also face-painting of noses and whiskers.
For the piece de resistance, I will have the children eat the puppy-shaped cake, lemonade, and ice cream, out of bowls on the floor without utensils.
With present-opening (maybe? Maybe we’ll do it afterward), I’d like to keep the party to 1 ½ hours. I think I can make a CD with a half an hour or so of kid dog-themed music, if I learn how to burn a CD (don't laugh at me).
I haven’t really decided what to get for her from us, given that we are not buying new. I’m thinking that I can make her a poncho and matching scarf from the princess-themed fleece I have, which she will probably like even though she’s not super princessy (Her current favorite possession is the little wooden orange Home Depot racecar she made at the Home Depot Kids’ Workshop). This is kind of hard. I’m making little cute scarves for the kids out of red fleece with felt hearts on it for Valentines day, so maybe I won’t make her another scarf. Maybe a poncho with a matching hat (Ha!). I’m having Izzy decorate a used frame for this sketched picture of the two of them that is just sitting around, and I’m having Lola make her a decorated pencil holder for her little desk in her room. I’m going to have to peruse all the craft books to see what else I can make her that she will actually like.
