Thanksgiving 2010

Nov 29, 2010 00:05

This year's Thanksgiving was spent in Seattle with Matt. I think it's the first one in a while that I've actually spent with someone. I flew out there the Friday before, immediately after work and returned to NYC on the red eye last night. I wish I had stayed. I do not feel confident at all that I made the right choice in moving here and lately it's been eating at me more and more.

The visit was relaxing. The food was delicious. It was nice being taken care of. It did snow though-- 4 inches, I think. We took a walk in it the first night. It was freezing, calm, and peaceful.

Friday night
- walk through a park after getting picked up from the airport, followed by dinner at a French restaurant.

Saturday
-Brunch at Portage Bay Cafe
-Brief window-shopping trip through Macy's
-Trip to Pike Place Market
-Elliot Bay Book Company
-Harry Potter

Sunday
-Took Matt to work at 6:30AM
-Read all of Lolita instead of doing homework
-Picked Matt up from work
-Attempted to go to a holiday party

Monday
-Homework all day
-Grocery shopping
-Toys R Us to purchase board games (backgammon, Battleship, and cribbage)
-It started snowing.
-Nighttime walk through the snow.
-Learned how to play backgammon

Tuesday
-Big breakfast
-Laundry and packing
-Booking of hotel, contacting of cousin
-Drive to Vancouver, checking into the hotel (very confusing, as there was no staff and a call center had to buzz us in)
-Dinner with Rodney and Nina
-Inspection of the hotel room revealed that we'd been upgraded into a 2-bedroom suite with a kitchen, dining room, and a living room with a fireplace.

Wednesday
-Checked out of the hotel and realized that neither of us has Canadian money for parking.
-Found a bank and remedied that situation.
-Lunch at an Indian restaurant
-Vancouver Aquarium
-Return to the US for grocery shopping

Thursday
-Big breakfast
-Figuring out what to do with the turkey
-Commenced cooking turkey at 1pm
-Other dinner items include a very delicious stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, and cranberry sauce
-For dessert, pumpkin pie with Tahitian vanilla and toasted almond gelatto

Friday
-Walked around Green Lake
-Took Matt to work
-Napped
-Laundry, cooked, and watched The Duchess
-Picked Matt up from work and went to meet Amy

Saturday
-Big breakfast
-Elliot Bay Book Company and REI
-Returned home to pack
-Tried to learn how to play cribbage
-Airport

So now I'm back in NYC, with its crowded streets, litter, and noise. I miss Seattle. It's hard to say if I love it more for seeming like the opposite of New York or if it's because Matt is there. Either way, I don't particularly want to be back yet and I don't want to go back to work tomorrow.
