More than meets the Eye.

Just got in from seeing Transformers. I'll put it to you this way, I thought it was worth the price of admission. If I were a professional criti... oh, wait, I am... I would give it the following ratings.

Story:

Effects:

Overall:

Story: Story was essentially nothing new, you get the whole story related to you in the trailer. That's really all there is to it. Nothing new, no unspoken undercurrents. A to B, Autobots vs Decepticons, with Earth as the Battlefield. End of Story. The good news is that this is the story that makes the Transformers franchise great to begin with, it doesn't need much in the way of complexity if it's going to be a single movie. However as this movie is suppose to be the first of a -franchise-? They needed to lay some ground work that would have at least connect future movies to this one. So I am being very generous and giving them half-marks for the fact that... well the original story is all they needed.

Effects: Mindnumbingly amazing. This movie just raised the bar above Star Wars Episode III. There is -nothing- more to say.

Overall: I think that this is going to be one of those movies where there will be two sorts of reactions. A) Hardcore Transformer fans will be disappointed at the story changes. No energon, story for example. There's also some key Transformers that were entirely left out. It's like having an X-Men movie without... Wolverine, Professor X, or Cyclops even so much as making a cameo. B) People who have no expectations at all, and who will think this is one of the greatest movies of all time. This doesn't account for the people who don't like Sci-Fi movies mind you, if you're not in to the genre don't see this flick.

What needs to be said is -this-: This movie was better than the X-Men movies, better than the Fantastic Four movies, better than the last two Spider-Man sequels, and better than Ghost Rider, Hulk, Superman: Returns, Daredevil, Elektra, and Punisher (both versions) wrapped up and packed together for Christmas. It does not however even pretend to approach Spider-Man #1, or Batman: Begins. Nor is it Sci-Fi ground breaking like the original Star Wars Movie, or as campy-catchy as Pirates of the Carribean.
