Holiday Tidings

So... I'm not one that celebrates Christmas, in fact I'm one of those people who calls it X-Mas all the time. However I am also not one of those people who believes in bringing others down for the Holidays. In fact if anything I encourage people to get in to the "Xmas Spirit. " What Hallmark has done, is what I hate most, commercializing a Holiday that could stand for something truly important. We all know that Christmas isn't just for Christians, so that whole basis is gone. We also know its not about the stealing and killing of little children from centuries ago. But it is also not about the Jewish holidays, the Chinese holidays. In fact that is why I call it Xmas. Because its for everyone. It is a time when we can all put aside trivial issues and just be kind to one another. We can turn aside racial ignorance, and embrace one another if for no other reason than because 'Tis the Season to be Jolly.'

Hey, what a concept. Imagine that. It takes a fat white man coming down our chimney to get us all to be jolly, but you know what? So what. Whatever it takes for us to be better people, I'm all for it. That is why, despite the fact that I don't celebrate Christmas, Hanuka or whatever, I still tell people "Happy Holidays." I still went and dropped 50$ to buy a child from the Salvation Army presents ( in fact I got my entire family to do 50$ each). Since I do not celebrate, I also volunteered my early "Christmas Morning" to a soup kitchen.

I don't like Christmas one bit, but my dislike comes not from some odd dislike of Christianity. Its because it takes some sort of Hallmark Holiday to remind 98% of Humanity to be Humane. So for my Holiday Tidings, I wish you all a Happy Holiday, but I also wish all of you would carry that Holiday Cheer in to the next 365 days.

Tell a friend.
