After a few minutes of running, the scents were starting to get extremely strong, and I skidded to a halt in front of a clump of bushes. I could tell that whatever I was hunting was behind those bushes, but something made me wary. There was this other scent apart from the tiger's that smelt incredibly familiar…
Suddenly, something clicked in my head. I breathed in this scent everyday at the dorm, and this scent frequently did the laundry and cooked dinner… Kibum… My heart skipped a beat as I thought his name. What was he doing in the middle of a forest? But the tiger's scent is familiar as well… And that's when I burst through the bushes growling the life out of me.
Because the person that belonged to that scent had been my packmate, not too long ago.
As the bushes cleared, I came face to face with a scene that made my blood boil. Kibum sat in the middle of the clearing, face pale with fright as he reluctantly turned his head away from the tiger to look at my growling form. The tiger, too, turned his head, and gave me a nod by way of greeting. I growled back angrily, hackles raised.
"Hello, Lucifer," he whispered, amber eyes gleaming. "Did you not recognize me?" he continued, not waiting for my response to his greeting as he inquired about my growling at him. I ignored him, keeping my hackles raised high.
Most werewolves look and smell every way like a normal wolf in their wolf form, and the only difference between us and normal wolves is that we're slightly larger but a whole lot more powerful, and our fur takes on the colour of our hair. However, some werewolves are different. These kinds of werewolves are specially suited to hunting one particular species, like in my ex-packmate, Tiger's, case, tigers. They have special markings and scents to draw prey close, then they strike before the prey realizes what's going on. These special mutations work well, and the only drawback they possess is that other werewolves might mistake them for prey and attack, like I almost did.
"I bet you're wondering why I'm hunting this guy over here," he said casually, moving his head to gesture towards Kibum. He had gotten my thoughts right. These kinds of werewolves hunt the species they are designed for, and rarely ever attack any other species as it's a waste of energy. So why is he attacking Kibum? I shot him a confused glance, not willing to speak and reveal to Kibum who I was through my voice.
"He was running around outside my house screaming out 'Jonghyun!' every five seconds. It woke me up from my beauty sleep, so I decided to lure him out here for a late night snack since I haven't been able to find any tigers lately…" he ranted on, completely ignoring me. I mentally slapped myself. I had forgotten what a chatterbox he was.
"Hmm come to think of it, isn't this guy a member of some boy band? I remember seeing his face somewhere before… And isn't this guy he was calling for from the same band?" I mentally crossed my fingers, hoping he wouldn't notice my…
"Hey, what's with the fur on your head?" Damn it, he noticed… "Why's it such a weird colour? Don't you know you're not supposed to dye your human hair in weird colours? It hinders the hunting…" his eyes widened. "Wait a minute, I've seen this hairstyle somewhere before, some guy in this boy band had it right? Are you in a boy band? That can't be true, right?"
I nervously glanced at Kibum. He was looking at me with eyes widened. Shit, did he recognize me?
"Hey, I remember now!" Tiger's sudden outburst made me yelp, and out of the corner of my eye I saw Kibum's eyes widen. Well crap, he heard my voice. "This guy's from SHINee, isn't he! And Jonghyun's from SHINee too! And that guy Jonghyun had this hairstyle a while back, didn't he…" Tiger looked from me to Kibum.
"Are you Jonghyun, by any chance?" Tiger asked, locking my eyes to his as he pieced two and two together. I shifted uncomfortably on my spot of grass where I had been standing for the past five minutes. Kibum's eyes widened, making me start to fidget even more. Tiger broke into an evil grin. "This guy doesn't know who you are, does he… Well, should I tell him and save you the trouble?"
My eyes widened, horrified at the thought. He's going to tell Kibum what I am…
"No!" the shout ripped from my throat before I could stop myself, and I cursed out loud. Kibum's eyes were bulging after hearing me speak and looked ready to faint. Tiger was smirking, suddenly realizing why I hadn't spoken a word.
"J- Jonghyun?" Kibum asked, fear in his voice. "Is that really you?"
There was no way I could keep my wolf form a secret anymore, and it was all Tiger's fault.
"This is your fault!" I yelled out, feeling rage creep into my bloodstream, and I felt my eyes glow even more fiercely. Tiger's eyes widened, cat-like tail creeping between his hind legs as he sensed my fury. There's no stopping me now, I thought grimly as anger washed through me, making me lunge for the cowering 'tiger'.
He screamed in terror, and I stopped with my dagger-like fangs at his throat. There was no way he could struggle, as I knew he hadn't been feeding recently. He had given away the fact that he was weak by telling me he hadn't hunted, clearing my doubts of attacking him for fear of getting injured. And anyway, even if he had hunted, I'd still easily overpower him…
A whimper broke through my thoughts, and I let one large amber eye roll to look at the source. Kibum was looking at me with terrified eyes. Eyes filled with the fear of seeing a monster…
I pulled back from Tiger's neck, and stepped off of his body, letting him dash away into the bushes with his tail between his legs. Without sparing a look at him, afraid that my fury would come back, I sat down and looked at Kibum with friendly puppy eyes that hopefully didn't have a trace of my previous anger left.
