I'm so glad I don't pay taxes in the Netherlands. I'd have to stage a coup and get some real lawmakers in there.
http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/10/31/witchcraft.tax.ap/index.html Wow. You can get an educational tax write-off for witchcraft. That's just special. "The court found on September 23 that a witch can declare schooling costs if it increases the likelihood of employment and personal income.... Courses are held 13 weekends a year closest to a full moon when outdoor rituals are practiced and potions boiled. Participants learn healing with herbs and stones, divination and fortunetelling with crystal balls and hieroglyphs, and how to make potions."
I think the nerd in me gets upset when I hear of stuff like this getting equal treatment to real studies, you know, of things that can be honestly studied, researched, tested, and verified. What's that word... science! The practice of trying to disprove one's beliefs, observing the results, and then drawing the most reasonable and conservative conclusions accordingly. Pretending to transcend the human condition is just not in the same league, and assertions to the contrary honestly bother me.
