In which our heroine cheats by using an e-mail for a gaming e-mail list in place of an actual livejournal post:
I was on five panels: Twilight - Breaking Dawn; All Robin Hood; Sexual Dystopias; Dragonlance; and Damsels in Chainmail. Robin Hood and Damsels in Chainmail were the most interesting. The panelists outnumbered the audience for Twilight, but we had a nice discussion among ourselves. Gaming-wise, I was able to bring up RA Salvatore's Dark Elf Trilogy as an example of a sexual dystopia (Menzoberanzan) . Dragonlance was a bit disappointing; only four people showed up (five counting the six-year-old grandson of one of the attendees), and only one of those had actually read most of the books. I helped her figure out what to read after War of Souls, and the other attendees where to start. They were curious about Dragonlance but were daunted by the sheer volume of the series. So, no thoughtful insight into the role of religion on the politics of Palanthas or feminist analysis of Rise of Solamnia. Oh, well.
I also got to disagree with Leslie Fish, the filk guest of honor this year, about the Mexican American War. She thinks Mexico would have been better off if the US or the Confederacy had conquered it; I have a slightly different view. History lesson on the Mexican American War to be coming soon to a livejournal post near you.
