My boycott of chinese goods is driving me to do things that I would have considered ridiculous in the past. I end up repairing a lot of stuff that I otherwise would have thrown away. This morning, a button fractured on my shirt. Not too long ago, I would have just thrown it away and ironed a new one. Instead, I sewed a new button on.
I didn't have a TV until yesterday. A couple of years ago, I would have just bought a new one. Instead, I found a used one. My landlord had two in their basement. One is tiny and the other is of an average size. They are letting me borrow it... and by that I mean I left a note saying that I took it. The remote was broken. Some kind of orange colored inductor or something had broken off. I soldered a new connection. Works fine now. Reception sucks though. I need cable or to find a better place for the antenna.
The reason they bought a new TV was because the remote on the old one broke.
I have been looking blinds. The ones that were in my apartment when I moved in were dingy and crappy.. they're those generic cheap, plastic, white ones. Most of the gears for the cords were stuck or otherwised crapped up. I wanted bamboo ones but they're all made in China so I was SOL. Also the crappy white ones were made in China... So I ended up cleaning and fixing the ones I had.
I still haven't found a portable mp3 player that is not made in china, and I don't know how I feel about a used one.
I want a potato masher.
