I'm not quite a
Money Saving Expert, but I do try...
Since there's just about time to get some of your Christmas shopping done online, I thought I'd share a handy tip to save yourself a bob or two.
Quite a lot of online retailers operate an affiliate scheme: if you run a website, they'll give you a kickback for every sale you point in their direction. Quite handy if you run, say, a music review site - you could point people to somewhere they can buy the CD, not bother with the hassle of running an online store yourself, and still make a bit of money.
Not a lot of use if you're not running a website, I hear you cry. But it is - cashback sites give you lots of links to online stores, and provided you click via their website, will collect the affiliate fees on your behalf, and forward it on to you (minus a small cut).
I've been using
Quidco since February, and have collected a rather tasty £70 for buying stuff I'd have mostly been buying anyway. You can also work the system to your advantage - earlier this year I signed up for Tesco Home Phone (despite never actually using the landline for phone calls), earned £30 and 2000 Clubcard points (worth £20 in shopping), then cancelled the service three months later, without having paid a penny for it.
It's like free money!
