Well crapshait, it's been quite some time since this old thing got an update, so lets get down to it.
Man, I've been busy lately. Probably not as busy as I should, but oh well. We'll get to that.
Classes have kicked into some serious overdrive, more homework and quizzes to do. Its rough, especially in theory and math. Those are probably my two roughest classes, and the two finals I'm worried most about. It's gonna be reeeal close on those tests. I feel ok about my jury, actually. I've finally started to notice SOME improvement in my playing. I feel like I can play smoother, with a little easier trasition from low to high and vice versa. Maybe I'm just deaf. But even so, Prof. Sinder said he noticed a definite improvement as well. That makes me happier.
Spartan Brass is damn cool, I've figured out. With the bigass influx of tunes lately, I finally feel like we get to do cool stuff. I mean, this group can lay down some damn good funk when we're needed to. You should hear us do "Brick House". Or "Layla". Or "Black Dog". Or even "Hey Ya" (yes, you read that right). It's just such a fun time at all the games.
My professor got me and a few other people free tickets to the Brass Band of Battle Creek concert this past Saturday. It was bloody fantastic. The recordings of them, despite their incredible quality, do not do this group justice. Its just mind blowing to hear what these guys do up on the stage. I got a free copy of their new live CD from the principle tuba player, and I got to meet Matt Tropman (euphonium player, I saw him perform The Planets with the DSO this september. Cleveland rocked his shit during the Falcone Festival, though), James Gourlay (Tuba player/conductor, scottish, and one of the funniest guys i've seen on stage) and Woody English (a ridiculously good cornet player). Not to mention Steven Mead, one of my heroes. It was freakin' sweet. They even played "A Christmas Festival" for their final encore.
I saw "Finding Neverland" on Sunday. It was quite the movie, and I had a good time with it. It is a bit sad though if you know some more of the backstory of the movie, like how Peter Davies committed suicide because he was sick of people calling him peter pan. Oh well, like I said, I still had a good time.
I think its time to study. But thats what tomorrow is for. I think.
