Porkchop Sanwiches? Oh SHIT! GET THE FUCK OUT!

Damn, this weekend was cool!

First off, Friday during the day was awesome, as there was an actual dodgeball tournament on campus that me and a few other people on my floor participated in. We sucked, but hey, it was still a helluva lotta fun. Dodgeball usually is. Then I zipped home after that and went to the game at North and met up with the band.

A few notes about them: They're fuckin' HUGE! I mean, 75 people is bigger than symphony band, and about 3 times bigger than the pep band when I was a freshman. I can't imagine fitting all those people into the back of the trailer like our first homecoming parade. That being said, the level of energy in it seems to be down slightly. Last year we were smaller, but I still think we were louder. Maybe its just that the two biggest loudmouths (Buda and I) took off.

After the game, we went over to Big Boys for some generic food with Cleveland and some choice members. It was quite nice to be able to speak with Mr. Cleveland about my college music experience so far, especially since he had some insight into my mouthpiece problems. Then, due to popular demand, I stood up and demonstrated The Kickstep to the younger folks who had no idea what it was. I got a few stares, but I can pretty much stare down anything at this point.

Saturday was awesome, as I got to go see the DSO that night for their rendition of "The Planets" and 2 other pieces, one by Ravel and one by Berlioz. I swear, that conductor was an absolute madman during Mars. He gave quite possibly the largest downbeat I have ever seen. Scary stuff. It was just absolutely incredible. I found I actually quite enjoyed "Neptune", simply because the effect of the offstage chorus was spooky. It was odd hearing sound just congeal out of nowhere, then fade out to absolute silence for a solid 10 seconds. I can't wait for Pictures at an Exhibition.

Sunday was, well, a Sunday, which means not much happened. I did have a short sectional for concert band, even though only one other person was able to make it. Oh well, I feel like some stuff actually got done, so I was content.

Yesterday was rough, as I forgot my music back in my dorm for marching band. I was pretty terrified I was just going to get tossed out of the block without a second thought, especially with the increase in discipline we're undergoing. It did serve as a bit of a wake-up call for me to get my ass back in gear, so that worked.

Jeez. Time for my second class of the day. Then lunch, practicing, my lesson (ARGH!), picking up my tux for the concert tomorrow night, then marching band, then fleh.
