all the near-death experiences I have witnessed...

so I was walking along and noticed a spiderweb (this is a true story by the way). I looked closer and I saw there was a lightning bug caught in it. I happen to be a fan of lightning bugs, so I decided to save it. the spider was already beginning to wrap the lightning bug up in a cocoon, and you could tell the bug was afraid for his life. luckily, the spider had only (so far) succeeded in wrapping up the lightning bug's back foot, so there was still a good chance of the lightning bug living out the rest of his life normally if freed. I took a leaf and put it near the bug's head, he grabbed it immediately and hung on with all his might. then I took a small stick and tried to break the spiderweb that was attached to the bug's foot. at first I thought his leg was going to pop off (which I did not want) but eventually the web broke. unfortunately there was still a little cocoon wrapped around his foot, but I guess it's like he just has a sock on, everyone wants to have a sock on. needless to say, the spider was completely infuriated and looked at me with devil eyes. I think the spider should appreciate the fact that I didn't destroy his whole stupid web (which I could have). I really have nothing against spiders, but lightning bugs don't deserve to die. I really hope the little goober is doing ok. I put him on a fence post, but he didn't move much. I keep telling myself it's just because he almost died and he is still in shock. in fact I am going to go check to see if he is still there. oh geez I hope I don't go back and find him still there having not moved for 45 minutes (yes that's how long it took me to word this amazing epic)
