Appropriately, It's A Wonderful Life is on my tv right now, swirling towards its insane and tender conclusion. George Bailey just shouted, "Isn't it wonderful? I'm going to jail ( Read more... )

A spot of crack, just for you... you should feel so lucky. sue_dreams December 27 2009, 04:28:56 UTC
Lex stills for a moment before putting the kryptonite very carefully aside. In a low voice that only Superman can hear, he says, "Low-blow, Clark. Try to remember we have an audience."

Hands on his hips, cape flapping in the wind like the tail of a puppy, smiling like Lex is the best thing since pie, the man before him is both Superman and Clark. "Lex Luthor, I love you. Come away with me." He extends his hand in the requisite offering.

Cautiously, Lex sidesteps around him toward his Death Ray... which is giving out less death and more crazy, apparently. There are civilians - scientists who may or may not have been mad, but were mostly harmless either way - and goons, reporters and police officers. There's no way the entire world isn't going to hear that Superman proposed.

"This isn't what I meant by definite action," Lex insists, unable to look directly at Clark's face for fear of his resistance crumbling.

Everything's been going so well. They're archnemeses, Lex gets an easy majority of Clark's attention, and no one else in the world is fool enough to try to usurp his place in Superman's's life. Not this time.

Clark's lovers have never had such a monopoly on his time and emotions as Lex does as his enemy.

It takes a bit of time, but after checking the Death Ray, doing a search for kryptonite of a non-green color, after contacting the Batman to verify that the alien Kal-El hasn't gone mad, Lex finally has to admit that this madness... isn't.

He turns the Death Ray toward the trajectory of the latest alien invading force (non-Kryptonian, of course) and grudgingly takes Clark's hand. He's not excited at all.

The over-eager flapping of his coat is a lie.

You know, you pretend to say "no" but your grudging Lex still says "yes" :)

Lex has always been very bad at telling Clark no... that's just a truth I can't deny.

Perfect Lex-response to an unexpected (and public!) Clark-proposal. *g*
