* This is another detailed summary, but Nagano’s background will be important for the next part of the story.
* About the names of people. There is more than one reading for some names, I am picking the (most) common reading.

Previous parts can be found at the OreOre Masterpost.

[p16 (cont.) - 25]

On Sunday the protagonist is butting heads with the Tashima, the person in charge at his workplace. He works selling cameras. Tashima is his senior and from the first moment he started working Tashima was against him and trying to find fault with him. For example the protagonist started as a contract employee and Tashima was the only one against him becoming a regular employee.

On this Sunday the protagonist is dealing with an elder lady. Her great-grandchild was just born and she wants a simple digital camera. The protagonist recommends a simple and easy to use model, and he also very carefully explains how to use it. Because there are no other customers he also writes the instructions down for her. While he does that she tells him about her son, grandson, great-grandson.

The protagonist has to use a loud voice because hear hearing is poor. Tashima interrupts because he doesn't like the voice he uses. He calls Nagano [the protagonist's name is mentioned here] to a corner of the sales area. He asks him if he has no work because he has time to bother their single customer more than necessary, he should finish the deal. Nagano says he would have done that if there were other customers, but there aren't.

Tashima looks coldly at him and points to the customers that weren't there before. Then he tells him if he works like a contract employee he will return to being one. Nagano counters with asking how it will feel to be transferred to another location, seeing as he is single. Tashima starts licking his lips, a sign that he is getting angry and tells him he is not suited for this kind of work [selling cameras], he should just return to be a contract employee and chase after his dream to become a cameraman. And that half-done things match such a half-a-man like him etc.

After Nagano hears this he lowers his head and gets close to Tashima. As Tashima keeps insulting, Nagano pretends to raise his head. It was supposed to be an push from under Tashima's chin but he miscalculated the distance and hit his nose from below. There is a smacking sound and Tashima covers his nose. It's bleeding. Doing something like that in the sales area is horrible, because the customers are there.

They get scold by the shop manger. Tashima wants him to be punished. But the shop manger doesn't do it. He says this quarrel is their own problem.

After work he gets invited for drinks by Yasokichi, a guy of about the same age as Nagano, and Minami, who is also not on good terms with Tashima.

Nagano explains the whole thing to them. Minami asks if he aims to be a cameraman. Yasokichi says that's a taboo word and that's why Nagano became angry. Nagano denies that though.

Yasokichi says it's because of wanting to be a cameraman Nagano quarrelled with his father and ran away from home. Nagano says he didn't run away, but wanted to be independent. He graduated from photography school and hunted for a job as a cameraman but couldn't find anything. He ended up earning his living by part-time work. His father wanted him to find a proper employment and they started to not get along anymore. That’s the reason he started to live alone.

They want to know if he reconciled with his father. Nagano shakes his head and doesn't answer.

They want to know more about the cameraman issue. It seems he still thinks regretfully about it. Nagano denies this, it's just a sore point for him. When he was young he had to change schools often because of the job transfers of his father. He had a hard time fitting in and felt out of place. His parents worried about that and felt guilty for the many job transfers (he is an only child btw.). They got him a single-lens reflex camera when he entered middle school. He totally fell for cameras and especially his father was happy and praised him for having found something where he put so many efforts into. But when Nagano wanted to continue a photography education at a vocational school and not go to university his father was against it. There are only a few people who can make a living with photography he should get a university education. That was the time when they started to grow apart.

In the end his mother said he should try the photography school if he wanted to and his father reluctantly gave in. After graduation when he couldn't find a job as cameraman his father felt like he was right all along and was kind of triumphant. Nagano was shocked he couldn't find a job as cameraman even though he was good at photography. He didn't know what to do. So he took part-time jobs. At that time he also got angry about what his father said to him. "You and I are the same, we have not talents, we can only be honest salarymen [office workers]."

In the end Nagano was getting sick of his father's attitude.

While talking he has been drinking beer and becoming a little drunk. He is the kind of guy who gets sleepy when drunk.

The others ask why he and Tashima don't get along. He explains that before he started working at Megaton he had a part-time job at Yoshinoya [1]. His only enjoyment at that time was going to Megaton and looking at the cameras there. He had left home and given up on photography, but he still kept up-to-date on new camera models. The cameras itself and not photography were his real passion.

He went to Megaton every day. Naturally the shop assistants came to recognise him, he also talked with Tamashi. He was a non-buying customer, but as an expression of gratitude that the shop assistants put up with him he gave them some extra food when they came to Yoshinoya.

One time an customer called out to him in the sales area. Nagano wore deep blue jeans and a grey shirt which resembled the outfit of the sales staff. He looked round but there were no real sales people so he helped the customer. With his knowledge about new camera models he did great at it. He was amazed himself. The customer was also satisfied. Another customer who saw that also asked for his help.

But he had a problem when one customer actually wanted to buy a camera he recommended. But luckily he spotted the sales persons Nakamura and Tashima and asked for help. The costumer could make the purchase.

Nakamura was surprised about his abilities and thought it would be better if he worked here instead of Yoshinoya. Nakamura said if he wanted to he would talk with his boss about that and so Nagano ended up going to a job interview.

But Tashima thought that he pretended to be a sales person just to take the customer's money by deception. But they trusted Nakamura's advice and employed Nagano.

By the time Nagano finishes the explanation he is half asleep, dreaming about being chased but to his relief not yet caught. Minami is also drowsy and drunk. When drunk she starts commenting on people. They end up saying Nagano and Tashima are very alike (which Nagano of course says is not the case). Minami says that both are pure. And pure humans get hurt and heal badly.

They tell Nagano that Tashima was also a bright and talented young man when he entered the company. He was ordered around a lot and he surely felt like he got no appreciation. He thought himself an expert in his field but in truth anyone could do it. This hurt him and then Nagano came along who was treated as an camera expert.

Nagano is pouting and like, "Didn't you invite me for drinks today because I was down and you wanted to cheer me up and now you give me an additional blow, I will return home." Minami is like "Nagano is about to cry, let's go home".

So they depart and Nagano sees them off at Hiyoshi-Station. Before parting Minami says that he shouldn't worry about Tashima. If he is too conscious of it Nagano will become like Tashima.

Nagano replies that today he was hurt and he hasn't recovered yet and then returns home.
