Roleplaying

I am in need of one or two intrepid and imaginative souls to join a game I am running. It is a dice-type storytelling game full of mystery and hidden magic, of pride, power, and paradox. It is called "Mage: the Ascension", by White Wolf.

I opened my Livejournal account yesterday, so I haven't written much about myself. I am a 23-year-old who likes writing, gaming, and food. I especially like White Wolf's games; I have read most of them (pre-New World of Darkness). Which version of Mage did you play? They are both good but very different. I run the Old World of Darkness version. It is a postmodern game that raises questions about the nature of reality and perception, whereas Mage: The Awakening is more about mystical secrets and ancient beings with arcane power. There is some of that in Mage the Ascension too, but the conspiracy and mystery has more of a Roswell flavor. Mage the Ascension seems very Matrixy, though it preceeded The Matrix.

More about me: I am finishing a project that will let me graduate from the University of Utah in the Spring. I am a psych major. If I continue in psychology it will be cognitive or social, but I might rather do some kind of writing. I prefer cats to dogs. I am an ebullient fan of Firefly. To me it transcends mere television into something sublime and staggeringly beautiful. I am a big fan of the Dune series, the Lord of the Rings, and The F. Scott Fitzgetald and Kurt Vonnegut. I am agnostic, with some slight leanings toward a generic theism.

My atheist roommate Austin and pagan friend Rowan (female) are my only two players currently, though we have made do.

From your profile, it sounds like you would make a good player--you are eloquently expressive. However, it appears you live about 40 minutes away; I live in Salt Lake and you, apparently, in Orem. In the likely event that you can't come to gaming sessions (Mondays or Tuesdays at 6:30; haven't determined which), are any of the former Mage players that moved away living in this valley?

If you COULD make the trip, I am sure my group and I would be willing to split the cost of fuel with you.
