Lazarus

Last weekend when I was at my Naginata practice, and found a crow with a broken wing sitting in the park, a sitting duck for marauding dogs, cats, and football players. We gave him (I've arbitrarily decided that it's a "he") water, and he perked up a little bit, although he was still barely distinguishable from a corpse. When a football player came 1 foot away from crushing him by accident, I decided to take him home until his wing heals.

I wrapped him in a cloth so he wouldn't flap his wings in the car, and when we got home I fed him a little bit of canned meat and tomato, and decided to call him Lazarus. Yesterday a veterinarian friend of mine came by and set his wing and wrapped it so it will recover properly. Each day he seems more and more cheerful, and eats with increasingly large appetite, and is beginning to walk properly, so I'm hoping that by next weekend I can return him to the park.

Image is not of Lazarus, but of a similar crow, submitted to Wikipedia by user Ali'i.

In other news, I'm defending my thesis tomorrow; wish me luck.
