The question of how wiccans in the Southern Hemisphere should celebrate the seasonal festivals is an old one on here (ie: whether to have Beltane in November, etc.)
A different problem keeps coming up, and I wanted to ask some non-fluffies:
“If you live significantly far away from the geographical origin of your path, how do you compensate?”
For example, colours have some very strong meanings in (Ancient) Egyptian magic and culture. It’s presumably difficult to keep these meanings when you’re not surrounded by the red deserts, black fertile soil and scorching sun, but instead having yet another rainy weekend in London. Or blizzards in Canada. We can know the differences intellectually, but what happens if we turn to face the weak, mist-covered sun and want to see it as wrathful heat?
Even within Europe there’s a huge variance in environments. “Sunlight through the trees” can have an entirely different meaning and experience depending on whether the forests are in England, Italy or Finland.
Shamans in freezing climates spend much of their time asking the wind and ice not to kill everyone - is there even any point practicing this path in a warm country?
So, are there any Khemetic Reconstructionists out there with tips on how they deal with this, or anyone else who has a big contrast between their path and their current surroundings?
